I remember being given his first Paddington book, when I was a boy in the late 50's, early 60's.

A good innings and many thanks to him. Heard an interview with him today (repeat, obviously) and he was harking back to his pre-war-memories for a lot of his writing. My kids loved Paddington. Quite an achievement.
