Used to be a field at the back of where I live and travellers used to camp on it illegally and it was hell when they were here. They used to defecate on the river path, break into people's back yards and steal things, they even stole a pet dog, and whenever they left the amount of rubbish had to be seen to be believed, plus the poor dogs they left behind too. Thankfully it's been built on now and they no longer come !
and yet hereiam people stick up for them
Stick up for some of them. The bad ones in my experience have all been Irish. They are viewed the same by many Irish people as well. They even have their own accent.

There are good ones though.
I know Bernie.

Do as you likeys don't respect the rights of others, so why shouldn't it work both ways?
If the travellers came into town in Ireland (although they don't call them travellers) all the pubs would shut.
they do seem to be a law unto themselves.
My brother lives in Appleby in Westmorland, and every year they hold the Appleby Horse Fair. He always makes sure he's away that week.

I always think that Travellers and Gypsies are seen as the same in most people's eyes. However, Gypsies are a proud race in their own right and are mostly hard working. They speak their own language - Romany - and should not be confused with a load of dossers who think they can do what they want, where they want.
Barsel
think i would give that a miss as well.
Islay, should ethnic groups be exempt from criticism simply by virtue of the fact that they are ethnic groups?
Naomi my dear I was merely stating that it was nice to see the user move onto another ethnic group, I could have gone as far as the user a long with others never criticize white people but I didn't!!
Islay, that'll be a 'no' then. Jolly good.
Well you obviously enjoy answering for people so go ahead and enjoy yourself!
Islay, I take it I've misunderstood you then and you think ethnic groups should be exempt from criticism. Perhaps you'll be kind enough to clarify.
Seems like the call to arms has, for once, been ignored.
No defence of the indefensible.
I wonder if a group of ABers got together and did exactly the same as this group have done, they would be treated exactly the same by the power that be. Any volunteers?
Only if I get a go on the mini digger.
A guy I knew in Devon was turning a large field into a mini golf course until the travellers moved in one night, he approached them, most likely a little heavy handed! he was told that if there was interference by him or the police his house would be burnt to the ground one night, he lived with his wife and 3 young children, he certainly believed him, they stayed on his land for 8 months totally ruined all the work he had done, stole thousands of pounds worth of equipment and left the place looking like a tip. They were a vile crowd!!
I helped clear up after a group who imposed themselves upon our lovely village - and it's not an exercise I'd want to repeat. Utterly disgusting.
