Isn't this a bit lacking in sensitivity by the Cafe ?

LOL.....I find it humorous,clever even...............
I'm outraged.

OUTRAGED!

No I'm not, it's an old gag.
OMG !

Sqad....I agree that the sign could be described as humorous, but not in a town where a little girl was abducted and murdered.
mikey.......it was 5 years ago.......more or less.
What time span had you in mind that would be acceptable?
Bad taste perhaps but let's hope the cake tastes better.

The trouble is almost every town and city has something unpleasant happen in it. You can't stop all humour because of it.
I am sure her family will find it funny !
It seems to me that the only people who would have any right to complain are the family of April Jones. Anyone else is getting offended on someone else's behalf, which -- well, I do all the time myself, I'm sure, but the point is that it's neither healthy nor reasonable to do so.

The more you weigh the less likely you are to be able to run for it ...
I'm not in the least offended but think it's incredibly crass. Yes all towns have nasty pasts but not all the kidnap and murder of a child, especially not in a small community like that.. It's certainly not funny.
I agree Prudie. Apart from anything else, I don't actually see in what sense eating more cake would make you less likely to be kidnapped anyway, unless you were a small child perhaps.

Sqad....I can't answer your query re time frame. But the Town was very badly affected by Aprils death.

I am sure there are many ways that this Cafe can advertise its goods and services, without using bad taste.

I am also sure the Town will deal with this in the way it thinks fit.
Would you object to a plumber in Scarborough having "Jim'l Fix It" on his van?
Maybe, Jim.......offended is a strange word and used often here for various reasons.....but we can have a view on the sign.

I think it's in bad taste.....it may be five years since April was murdered but not knowing where her body is must make it difficult to move on from the event....

There would be more humorous ways to advertise cake....x
//April Jones's family have been in here recently, when the sign was up, and have not said anything," she said.//

If the family aren't offended why should anyone else be?

Maybe they didn't see the sign Chelle ?
No-one has said they are 'offended'. Maybe the family aren't the type to mouth off
For myself I guess I have a thing for dark humour (where, perhaps, I use "humour" in the broadest possible sense of the word, but whatever).

I think it's perfectly possible to be sad about the kidnapping and murder of April Jones, and moved by it, while still finding this sign (mildly) amusing. Some people may disagree which is their right, but I'd generally hold that the reaction to a particular event or horror should be guided by those most directly affected by it. In this case, that's the family of April Jones. For whatever reason (either not bothered, or too angry to complain) they've said nothing about this sign. So neither should anyone else, at least not for that reason.
Totally off-topic and probably inappropriate, but two guys went touring in Wales. Felling hungry they stopped in Machynlleth. When they went into a fast food outlet one of the guys, on placing the order, asked the girl how to pronounce the name of the place where they were. She replied slowly, "Mack Don Alds"
Jackdaw....LOL....LOL
