No, no more than 'white' dolls are.
I never considered that they ever were AOG.
I've never considered them racist - the are no more representative of a person than a womble or clanger
I never did think of Gollies as racist, I was told they are.
Just a toy to me, always was and always will be, loved mine.

Some will make a fuss about anything, Barbie came in for dreadful stick at times for different reasons.
Far from being racist, I would say the opposite. As a small child I had three woolly companions which I would take to bed with me: a rabbit, a Teddy and Golly. Golly was my favourite, I loved its broad smile.
Black people can be racist AOG.

Just because a black person sells Gollies, does not take away hundreds of years of their history.

Ghana was not much bothered by slave traders, so perhaps they are unaware of the suffering that the befell some of their neighbours ancestors?
I never thought them racist, although the W word may give offence to some I suppose.

They were invented by a nineteenth century writer, called Florence Kate Upton ::

I desperately wanted a Golly badge when I was a kid, although my Mum never bought Robertson's Jam, as she always made her own !
If anything they are far more sexist than racist; every one I have seen has been male, never seen a female one.
I had lots of Golly badges and the Golly band figurines
Fascinating link to Robertson's here :::

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robertson%27s#Collectables_series

"Developed as a brooch-based collector series, by the early 1930s the Golly had appeared in little fruit designs, many of which were worn as jewellery because of their high quality"
//Ghana was not much bothered by slave traders//

Another thing I've been wrong about all my life!

Did anyone have a cast iron black head with a hand in which you put a coin, tipped up the arm and the head swallowed the coin? My brother and I both had one, a boy and a girls, unfortunately they are lost long ago, apparently they're worth a bomb now.
Oh yes.
Many companies have a suspect history, Hugo Boss started by designing the Gestapo uniforms, should that influence our views of them today?
I have one of those, zebo.

It came from my grandmother; she called it 'Sammy' which I rather fear was short for something politically incorrect.
