Mikey, if it's no concern of yours what women, and I presume men also, wear, why did the Hillsborough T-shirt offend you?
Mikey - do you know what happens to some of them if they rebel?
//It is changing hearts, minds and long held beliefs we need to work on //

A futile ambition.

If it's no concern of Mikey's, I don't know why he's bothering to comment.

/// I am not particularly enamoured with the large quantities of fat, ugly women going around with few clothes on but covered in considerable amounts of tattoos these days but I wouldn't dream of passing a law that forbids it. ///

Only because you do not have the power to pass that law.

I myself not only find the wearing of such Middle Eastern and certain style Asian dress offensive to my eyes, but they should also be banned from the wearing in this country as they only encourage divisions.

Incidentally mikey a woman can do something about being fat, having an excessive amount of tattoos, and even the way she chooses to scantly dress herself, but she cannot do anything about her being ugly, if they happened to be the features she was born with.
Yes Talbot...even them and I see immeasurably more of them that I do of burka-clad women.

Why can't we all mind our own business, instead of hiding behind our right to be be offended ?

I am reminded of the story of the little old lady, living in a block of flats, who calls 999, because there is a man exposing himself out of the window in the block opposite. When the Police arrive, they find the little old lady sitting on a chair by the window, whimpering into a hankie.

The Police look out of the window, up and down, and left and right but can't see anything amiss..

"Oh no" the little old lady says, "you have to stand on the chair ! "

///Why would we want to ban the Burka ?///

If I went into my Bank or B/Society wearing a Balaclava or a Full Face Crash Helmet I would quicky be asked to remove it, why then should the woman, if indeed it is a woman in the queue behind me, be allowed to continue viewing the World through a small slit in a full face covering garment?

whoooooooosh
Mikey, if you want to mind your own business, instead of supporting this appalling garment, mind it.
Stuey....I didn't say it did, but it offended somebody, and that is why he was in court.

The wearing of the burka shouldn't offend anyone, but some people seem to want to go out of their way to be offended, especially if it concerns race and/or religion.
stuey at 14:48, exactly what I was thinking.
Baldric...what business is it of yours if someone walks down the street wearing a burka or not ?
I don't think anyone is actually offended by it, Mikey.

That is truly rich coming from you. Particularly if someone's politics or beliefs differ from yours .

I must remember that quote for the future,.It is bound to come back to haunt you.
I don't know if it 'offends' me as such, but I don't like it as it's not part of our 'culture' and it doesn't belong here as obviously it doesn't belong in France or now Switzerland, good for them !
Really Ummm ?

Mikey do stop spinning, my question was,

"If I went into my Bank or B/Society wearing a Balaclava or a Full Face
Crash Helmet I would quicky be asked to remove it, why then should the woman, if indeed it is a woman in the queue behind me, be allowed to continue viewing the World through a small slit in a full face covering garment?"

yeah but Baldric you know you cant conquer Fear when it takes hold.
I jogged down to my bank to pay in - and they wouldnt let me in.
"We had an armed robbery last monf..". the twitching bank clerk wimpered
but I had jogged down in a singlet and shorts ( 30 y ago ) wiv da cheque in a plastic bag
and where do you think I have hidden the sawn off shot-gun ? I asked.

o we thought you had a pea-shooter she said.... no no she didnt
she was just singularly unamused that I had made light of her woes. That branch closed within four weeks and one wonders if the clerks were playing into the management's arms.
The banning of the burka is just another stick to beat Muslims with....it has beggar all to do with the rights of some Muslim women.
Mikey....I bet he's really not offended, he just doesn't like it.
If the supporters of this shroud were obliged to wear one every time they leave the house they would think very differently. As it is, thinking is off their agenda.
