Many have said that they didn't, but what was the alternative?

On a radio phone-in this morning, one person was foolish enough to suggest that the parents of the child staged this, so that they could obtain video footage to later sell to the media and put on youtube.

A mail journalist has taken up yards of newsprint in today's edition anthropmorhising this situation, and the gorilla's behaviour, centering in the fact that for a new seconds the gorilla held the child's hand. This sort of handwringing sob-fest goes against the facts and the potential of the situation - a large and potentially lethal primate, part of a...

I think the keepers bullet was more humane than a life in a concrete prison cell.....but we can go there another time.
I don't follow, AOG.....the lady who died was in the territory of the crocodile. The crocodile did what is natural to him.....in his territory, surely?

I have lived where animals will kill a human for food or when the human is seen as a threat.....but I knew how to keep myself safe and I respected their habitat.....
If I'd been as daft as those who came between a mother bear and her cubs for a cute photo I'd have been dead too......and you'd be deprived of my company on AB..... ;-)
Perish the thought.
Ahhhh...get your tongue out of your cheek, man with much nicer avatar now.......☺
The zoo was at fault for the failure of protecting the public around this enclosure, it should have been checked in case a breach could have happened, & It did, With Cost to this lovely animal.
Without wading through 160+ posts it's clear that having viewed the extended footage the zoo had no alternative.
What will be a matter for further scrutiny however will be the circumstances that led to a youngster ending up where he did i.e. why/how he slipped the attention of his parents and subsequently ended up the wrong side of an enclosure fence.
Nearly seven billion humans, very very few silverbacks. I would have tried several sleeping darts first, rifle at the ready.
AB has an awful lot of wild animal experts specialising in Gorilla's that know better than the recognised experts.
Now Bertrum has reminded me of the definition of an expert by Blaster Bates.....☺
As many have said, it's very sad ending to an unfortunate situation brought about by, in all likelihood, the parents' momentary lack of attention. Too bad Dian Fossey was not available to intervene.
Most gorilla experts don't run zoos, this decision was made by zoo owners not gorilla experts. It's a possibility that even the keepers, who would have known best, did not have a say in what was done. The life of the boy and the reputation of the zoo were the first priorities.
David small's post. Unless it was your child, in which case you'd have wanted it shot. Anything to the contrary is a lie.
Those racists on Twitter will be feeling very foolish right now.
Talbot, what have the twits of Twitter been saying?
People are warped.
It would be safe to assume these twits don't really care about the Gorilla. What did morons do before the internet arrived?

I hadn't even noticed what colour the boy was.
Talbot, lol, very, very stoopid.
Neither had they, wolf.
Here's a picture of the white boy and his parents. Why did they even mention colour, what has that to do with it?
