My late OH has left me with 14 rifles @ 3 hand guns in my attic. Theres a selection of bullets but which they fit is beyond me. He was licenced but am not. Gawd knows what to do with them and am not chancing wasps nests to get at them.
Hand them in at the next police gun / knife amnesty in your area, tambo.
Tony, I will be stung to death.
Or fall thru ceiling ;)
tambourine, call your local council - they'll send people in to get rid of the wasps - and call the police. They'll get rid of the guns and ammunition.
tambo you need to inform someone quig ! on this
perhaps retro can advise. the second group you mention may cause you trouble unless you do something really really quick. 30y ago my mother in the same position was advised to ring up another shooter and get him to keep the guns until their position was clarified ( she wanted a licence ) .

Naomi - the law changed 1 April 2016 on licensing and this tells you what the doctors have to do under the new firearms regulations

there is even a bit on putting flags in their electronic notes ....
and somehow somehow I think you are not going to say - "I'll have to put this thro a google - translator to understand PP" - somehow this time you may get it together to press the URL and find out what you need....simples. It is all a question of motivation.

//That analogy has been used before, and it doesn't fly.

The purpose of a car is to transport people and accidental damage and death is an unfortunate and unintentional by-product. //

Get out the office more often. I can show you where cars are used as a toy to impress some brain dead bimbo by some feckless spotty youth's every evening about 6pm onwards. Go to my local Sainsburys and you will see about 8 or 9 Corsa and Fiestas lined up with young boy or girl behind the wheel. It is a large car park with bays for about 600 cars on the ground floor and the open elevated park will hold about 300 cars accessed by a ramp.
Whilst mothers and toddler walk from car to store these morons will be taking it in turns to impress each other with the best handbrake turns and Donuts. It is like the Dukes of Hazard and Top Gear from the creche combined.
I actually will that one day a yob will lose control, crash through the upper storey barrier and disolve into a fireball on the ground floor killing no one else other than themselves.
It is artless of you in the extreme to trot out 'a car is for the purpose of transporting people' when these youths clearly think there is another use which you have not considered . A vehicle is just as much a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands as a firearm is if used recklessly and thoughtlessly. The analogy is valid.

We seem to have come a long way from the original post here.

But carry on...I don't want to stifle debate !
Peter Pedant, Thanks to Mamyalynne and Retrocop I found what I needed yesterday. Do try to keep up.
Am aware of dangers in my attic in the wrong hands. I wouldnt give access to a pest controller or lone pc, for fear of items going amiss. Will try our local chief inspector.
Thank you Mikey. As Tambo seems to be in a dilemma I hope you do not mind me assisting a fellow ABer with advice she seeks .As it appeared on this thread it may be better to continue here.I could start another thread if you wish?
Good idea. The police will give you the best advice.
^ That was to tambourine.
tamborine
I hope this may assist you.

//Unexpected possession of a firearm – what should I do?
You are advised to contact either your local Police or Firearms Licensing Authority as soon as possible. Avoid placing yourself in danger or in jeopardy.

◾If you find unlicensed weapons, for instance discovering them in your loft having just moved into a new address, do not handle them - they could be loaded and in a dangerous condition. Immediately call your local police who will remove them safely and dispose of them for you.
◾If you are left with firearms that you know had been legally held (this could be due to the death of a Certificate holder, who was a close relative) you have several options.

Temporary Permit - You could request a permit to allow lawful access to the weapons in order to give you time to decide the best means of disposal. The Police are empowered in such circumstances to issue a Temporary Permit, which would normally be restricted to possession only (not use) and be valid for a limited period of time, usually a month, but in certain circumstances can be longer. To request this, you need to contact the Firearms Licensing authority.

Registered Firearms Dealer - You could arrange for them to be placed with a Registered Firearms Dealer for storage and/or sale.

Certificate Holder - You may know of other Certificate Holders to whom they may be transferred (this would depend on them having sufficient storage and, in the case of guns that had been held on a Firearms Certificate, the authority to acquire that particular type of weapon).

Deactivation - Another alternative is to have the weapons ‘deactivated’, which would render them safe and remove them from all legislation relating to firearms. They would still retain the original appearance but would be incapable of discharging a missile.///

You could be sitting on a small fortune.I would advise you contact a Registered Firearms Dealer. You will be able to find your nearest in yellow pages. Just look up Gunsmiths/Dealers. The police must be notified of their existence but don't just let them take them and destroy them. You have a right to sell them although the handguns are now banned and cannot be licensed for private sale here. They should of been handed in to police back in the late 90s but that is nothing for you to worry about from a legal aspect.
I suggest you try to get a Temporary Permit and get someone to extricate the firearms from your loft.Same applies to the ammunition. If it is reloaded ammunition it would probably be destroyed as no one would buy it but boxed proprietry branded ammunition costs a lot of money and is valuable.
My ammunition is just under £1 per round but some bullets are in excess of that figure so 500 rnds could reach several hundred £s depending on calibre and condition.
Hope this helps.
Yes I agree the purpose of this thread was for mikey to do a little of his usual American bashing.

But if mikey is so disenchanted regarding the US please allow me to point this out to him, "Look what multi-immigration did for the US"?

The US is a multicultural country on a very large scale, and they say when America sneezes the UK catches cold.

Still in favour of mass immigration mikey?
You slate Mikey AOG for his anti American type thread, yet you attempt to turn it into one of your anti immigration threads!

So you are as bad as he is!!

I won't bother copying in the rest of your world-weary superior nonsense, because again, it is entirely off the point I am making.

The purpose of a car is to transport people - that is a simple fact, and is not negated by the various and sundry unsuitable additional uses to which it can be put.

Exactly the same applies to a gun.

What you appear to fail to grasp, with your side-lining 'old copper' memories and imagined superior experiences of life. is that each item has a specific purpose for which it is designed and built, and the other uses are irrelevant the discussion.

A gun is designed to shoot and kill - that is its raison d'etre, and that is what has happened here, and no amount of rudeness and 'I know more than you ...' rhetoric is going to alter that.
Yes whatever you say.
