Anybody remotely surprised by this ? I can't remember the last time I shopped at BHS....about 15 years ago I think, to buy a bath towel.

I met the Queen in a BHS hat...it was lovely. pearly cream faux straw with a cream net swathe.
Maybe Shane lives in Windsor
But I love charity shops!
My son told me once, if you see a shop offering to buy gold jewellery, just look round, and there's bound to be a bookies nearby ;)

Next door to my local BHS used to be C & A. I do miss that shop, lovely stuff at reasonable prices.

I bought a smashing Reefer jacket from C+A, in about 1969-1970, and I wore it to bits !
Online retailers thrive so well because, by not troubling themselves with outlets on multiple high streets they can win customers by setting an attractive price which is only cheaper by a margin wide enough to catch the buyer's attention but, in fact, trousering what their competitors are paying, per unit sale, in rent, rates, insurance, wages.

Says he, as he shamelessly buys stuff from amäźõñ…

If friends cost upward of £3.50, per cup per day, no wonder I don't have any. I'd be just another dent in someone's income. :-(

No, I don't live in Windsor .I live in a small seaside town.
And yes trt we have our share of charity shops but better that than shops standing empty.
I can't tell you why our High St is always busy but it is.
Amongst the chains like Boots ,Wilko ,QD ,Iceland, Morrisons,Superdrug etc we have lots of independent shops ,two butchers, two bakers, craft shop ,wool shop, pet shop, fishing tackle shop ,music shop, various gift and card shops ,upholsterers, two independent opticians, photographers ,eateries (again independents)and a couple of chains Costa and Subway.
Public Library, fish and chip shop. Two newsagents ,barbers ,hairdressers, beauty salon,a couple of pubs .Bespoke furniture, picture framer and art supplies, sweet shop that also sells fancy ice cream , nail bar, jeweller, phone shop...more.They all seem to make a living and it's all within walking distance from my estate.
Oh yes and there's the bank and the bookie and a couple of estate agents !
I hope that's answered your question :)
I've always found bhs to be dismal and depressing.
C and A is still going (very strongly) in most of Europe and other parts of the World, too. I was buying stuff in one recently...in Amsterdam.
I was in the c and a in Amsterdam years ago and wondered if it was still open so thanks for that gingejbee, I liked their 6th sense range, wonder if they still do it.
I shan't tell you the old joke as to why C & A underwear was labelled as such, just that it was for the hard of thinking to know which way to put them on.
rosy... C and A are still going really strongly in so many countries...Europe of course but also Mexico, Brasil, even China.

walking through BHS in Truro is worse than walking through the cathedral graveyard, no inspiration at all, everything very dowdy...except for the café and they are as popular in the trade (competing against Wetherspoons) as a fart in the International Space Station, as both are destroying the business of nearby caffs that have to stand on their own feet with subsidised pricing - full English plus coffee/tea for £2-50?
male or female, jackdaw?
Either, DTC.

There's a C&A near me, Bathy.
I thought for women it was CC&A......
No, it is all-encompassing. The C is mutable, the A immutable.
where did the labels fit in, then?
Doh! The C was at the front and the A at the back.
