In this case the security guards were only doing their job, why did this person need to make such a fuss.

/// A spokesman for Tesco said shoppers could take baskets to their cars, as long as they were brought back to the store. ///

Oh yes, and how many would? some can't even bother to wheel the shopping trolleys back where they are stored.

But it appears she managed to get a £10 voucher out of it along with press coverage, the only saving grace is that the security guards also happened to be black, else it could have been even more serious.

The suspense is killing me. Come on AOG, fess up to something. Anything to keep the virtue-signallers happy.
Frankly I don't know how you have the nerve to go to bed or get on with real life without first addressing the demands of the self righteous.

/// And mine - I am even more intrigued to hear about AOG's assertion that the gentleman in question was not presumed to be wearing his 'usual attire', when information about his occupation demonstrates that he clearly was wearing exactly what he would usually wear to work, one can safely assume. ///

/// I await AOG's response with interest. ///

Hughes you do not deserve a response seeing that when I do take the trouble to respond to you, if the response shows you in a bad light my post is generally removed.

But hey what the ek, this time I will humour you.

Until a poster provided proof of what this gentleman did for a living, you and I had no possible idea.

My remark was made not because of the colour of his skin (which you and others would have loved it to have been, hence the suggestions that there were racist connections attached to some answers), but because of the posing way that he had chosen to take, apart from how many shoppers these days, shop in collar and ties?

Incidentally since you have seemed to have failed on this one, perhaps you care to take a look at my link on the theft of wire baskets in Wales and Scotland, surely with your vivid imagination, you can get a little racism on my part out of that?
>how many shoppers these days, shop in collar and ties.

Most people who wear them for work who nip out at lunchtime or go on the way to/home from work . I'm guilty of that.

Even if he normally gets his messages wearing jeans and a t-shirt, what is wrong with wearing a shirt and tie when he knows he will be in a newspaper?
In 1962 my best frenz father defended a widow in court on a charge of theft ( larceny as it then was I suppose )

she had taken a wire basket from a pile - "please take one" - and so she did......

he got her off - and 50y later I wonder if he successfully argued that it was part of the sales contract for which she had paid ....

all players in that action were anglos just in case AOG is doing a body count again
// on the theft of wire baskets in Wales and Scotland,//

and the ones shaped like little sheep are flying off the shelves ....

[ joke joke I was just trying to lighten the mood ]
Thank you for responding re the remark about Mr Hilton's clothing - of course some people do shop in smart attire, I too have seen them.

However it is more likely he was interviewed prior to going to work if the photo in the article is any indication of the time of day as it is so empty in the car park.

It was the need to bring the subject up that puzzled me, so you have said what prompted you- thanks again.
AOG - //Hughes you do not deserve a response seeing that when I do take the trouble to respond to you, if the response shows you in a bad light my post is generally removed. //

Thank you for your reply, and the clarification. If I misunderstood the gist of your post, then that responsibility lies more with your history with regard to issues of ethnicity, than with my misinterpretation – but thank you for explaining, that was all I asked.

Please, for the fourth time, will you stop referring to me as ‘Hughes’, it is disrespectful, and I do not appreciate its demeaning inference.

And finally, if your posts manage to leave out the personal attacks on myself, or other AB’ers that you seem to frequently wish to include, then I am sure you will find that the moderators do not remove them.

There you go again Hughes, while ever you persistently try to question, nay accuse me of my 'history' regarding issues of ethnicity, then I have every right to respond by attacking you also.

It is in your hands, stop trying to dictate what legitimate subjects I can post threads on, then we can continue debating in a more amiable way.
I may add AOG that I find your use of 'Hughes' as a way to address Andy belittles you more than it does anyone else.

If you choose to see an ‘attack’ where no exists, there is nothing I can do about that.

You cannot seriously argue that your posts do not, in the majority, contain elements of ethnicity – that is not an ‘attack’, that is a matter of record.

//It is in your hands, stop trying to dictate what legitimate subjects I can post threads on, then we can continue debating in a more amiable way.//

I am not trying to ‘dictate’ anything on which you post, you really need to stop looking for conflict where none exists.

I have repeatedly asked you to do me the courtesy of using my User Name as I use yours, and not to demean me with the use of my surname, to which I object.

If you continue to be so disrespectful, I shall report each sighting of it.
That is not an ‘attack’, or a ‘threat’ – merely advance warning.

Is that how you really go about it, andy?
ANOTHEOLDGIT resents being called "GIT" which is the final part of his name so why should it be okay to use "Hughes"?
@Togo

//Ahh I've seen you Hypo, shopping in Aldi with a Harrods bag. //

Hee hee!!

Neat mindreading trick, btw. I was going to post about brand-name poseurs, re-using the snazzy bags (reassuringly sturdy) for their most mundane shopping.

Which reminds me, the thread has barely touched on the fact that bags are the flimsiest they've been for years and aren't worth a penny, let alone five. At least they're not pretending that it isn't a tax or a penalty charge.

"Behaviour modification" though. Few other areas of life where we push people this hard and it focuses anger on environmental concerns. A generation of kids will be listening to their parents getting wound up by what Clarkso calls "eco-mentalism" and I worry they may internalise this and turn into "couldn't give a ****" types, by the time they grow up.

/// I may add AOG that I find your use of 'Hughes' as a way to address Andy belittles you more than it does anyone else. ///

I couldn't care less what you think, Hughes is his surname I presume, just as Andy is presumably his first name, and since unlike you I am not on first name terms with the ABer, I will continue to use his surname.
Oh dear name-calling again

what is wrong with the man Hughes - a phrase beloved of journos ?

//Thank you for responding re the remark about Mr Hilton's clothing - of course some people do shop in smart attire, I too have seen them. //

A typical southen remark
In the 'pule ( Liverpool to you essex people ) - SUnday morning I am reliably informed the best people feel obliged to change back into their pajamas before visiting the supermarket so that they dont stand out .....
If he or anyone else calls you "GIT," that is okay is it?
I am well aware that you couldn't care less what I think - you have made no secret of that for some time.

However I prefer (usually) to use a polite tone and form of addressing people - so which is it to be 'Git' or 'Goat'?
Once again a thread becomes the AOG/AH show.
Seems strange how the actions over overzealous supermarket security staff can develop into 119 comments, many of which are totally irrelevant to the point in issue, then develop into an unnecessary argument.
