Absolutely disgusting, is this no longer England, are our armed forces something to be ashamed of so as to be hidden behind walls?

/// Former Chief of the Air Staff Sir Michael Graydon described the incident as ‘disappointing’. ///

I would use stronger language than that sir, but it would not get by the AnswerBank censor.

I wonder if this over sensitive staff would have told a Muslim woman wearing a full burka the same thing?

"400,000 Muslims wore the British Military Uniform and fought and died alongside British soldiers in the second world war. " Yes I’m sure you’re right, Retrochic. However, that was then and this is now. It would be very interesting to see how many Muslims currently resident in the UK would answer the call to arms if it were necessary. “Anyway -why on...

I agree Mamy....lessons need to be learnt here.
Another non story, he was asked if he wanted to sit elsewhere, not told to.
If this was not about muslims then name the culture the misguided decision maker was worrying about upsetting? Not the French or Spanish or Polish or Catholics or Chinese or the Welsh etc etc etc
Germans? don't mention the war lol!
You'll find that more Muslims were against us than with us, retro. They were great admirers of Hitler, and he them.
Can't imagine what they had in common. (sarc. in case there's any doubt.)
Prudie,we don't know what the previous incident this employee witnessed was - all guesswork now isn't it?
Quite right, prudie.

Would they, and especially the BBC report that it was in fact Muslims that they were afraid of offending?

One makes their assumptions on past information, you and almost everyone else if they are honest, came to the same conclusion as I, except that they won't admit to it in case they are labelled a Islamophobic or at worse a racist.

As ex-RAF, I would have expected more support from you than to dismiss it merely as a 'non-story'?
Of course it's about muslins, it always is !
my father was a wing commander and I think its a non story too
AOG where would you be without Muslims would you have anything to talk about?

/// my father was a wing commander and I think its a non story too ///

Your feelings are no surprise whatsoever, but does your father also think it is a non-story?
According to the news report I heard, the sergeant was asked if he wanted to sit elsewhere because there had been a previous altercation between a member of the public and another serviceman. As the sergeant had damaged eyes and possibly wouldn't be able to defend himself if somebody took a swing at him, it seems sensible to me to offer him a choice of sitting out of harms way.

Even when I was running my own business I maintained an up to date SIA Licence and did quite a few covering shifts at the QEQM for a Security Company, (just to keep my hand in). There wasn't a shift I worked there that did not have a violent episode of some kind and more often than not it was a Racial incident in A & E between the queuing masses.
Vulcan that has been established but seems to make no difference to the hunger to include Muslims/Islam into the story.

One may also ask, where would AnswerBank be without Muslims, no extensive debates I would presume.

And that is not to mention the Media (Television News, Radio News, and the Press etc.) Just another non-news day, I would imagine.
"400,000 Muslims wore the British Military Uniform and fought and died alongside British soldiers in the second world war. "

Yes I’m sure you’re right, Retrochic. However, that was then and this is now. It would be very interesting to see how many Muslims currently resident in the UK would answer the call to arms if it were necessary.

“Anyway -why on earth would a Muslim be offended by an RAF uniform?”

Indeed. And why should anybody at all be offended by an RAF uniform (except, perhaps, a member of the Luftwaffe and even they seem to have forgiven their erstwhile enemy). And even if they are, that is what might be termed “hard luck”. The Royal Air Force is one of the three principle military forces of the UK. Anybody living or even just visiting here may from time to time encounter service personnel in their uniforms. If they cannot tolerate this they might like to consider whether the UK is the right place for them to live or visit.

It’s perfectly true that not even the Daily Mail article specifically mentioned Muslims. A hospital spokesman said this: “‘they didn’t want to upset people’ because they ‘have lots of different cultures coming in’.”

I cannot think of any culture which might take exception to the sight of an RAF uniform. The hospital staff obviously had one or more cultures in mind when they mentioned that the uniform may cause offence. I am not a gambling man, but I’d have a small wager which culture it was they were afraid of offending.

Meanwhile in Germany (that well known haven of peace and tranquility for Muslim refugees) parents of children attending a school in Pocking, Bavaria, received a letter from the head telling them not to allow their daughters to wear skimpy clothing. The school is adjacent to a camp housing "refugees" awaiting resettlment. The letter says the migrants "...are mainly Muslim and speak Arabic. They have their own culture. Because our school is directly next to where they are staying modest clothing should be worn...to prevent misunderstandings".

If there are too many "misunderstandings" Germany (and a few other places across Europe) may have to call upon its troops - many of them probably in "offensive" uniforms - to quell the disorder.
AOG my father passed away 13 years ago and as with his 'class' was neither racist nor a snob. In later years he worked in Saudi and was adored by his Muslim workers who he treated as equals.
^^^^

Should read "I cannot think of any OTHER culture which might take exception..."
