Absolutely disgusting, is this no longer England, are our armed forces something to be ashamed of so as to be hidden behind walls?

/// Former Chief of the Air Staff Sir Michael Graydon described the incident as ‘disappointing’. ///

I would use stronger language than that sir, but it would not get by the AnswerBank censor.

I wonder if this over sensitive staff would have told a Muslim woman wearing a full burka the same thing?

"400,000 Muslims wore the British Military Uniform and fought and died alongside British soldiers in the second world war. " Yes I’m sure you’re right, Retrochic. However, that was then and this is now. It would be very interesting to see how many Muslims currently resident in the UK would answer the call to arms if it were necessary. “Anyway -why on...

No...I'm afraid there is no book like that available (I've checked the Kindle e-store online).

Just please be careful in future. The AnswerBank is no place for any form of sensible analysis. I have no idea where you may have got that idea from.

/// Think this......

I am in attendance at A&E late one Friday night and someone says - 'Would you like to sit somewhere quiet and out of the way, sometimes trouble kicks off?' ///

Yes you are certainly stretching hypothetical reasoning to great lengths there Mamyalynne.

But let me join you in your hypothetical reasoning.

Why would someone choose you specifically, to be asked to ask if you would like to sit somewhere quiet and out of the way, would all the other patients be given the same opportunity?

Would our 'hypothetical' fully covered Muslim woman be given the same chance, or would the reply likely to be 'How dare you! I think that's shameful and I shall report your actions to the authorities, my family may even go to the Press'?

I'm not falling for that one - you have the audacity to accuse me of stretching hypothetical reasoning??

That has to be the post of the year , Sir, my congratulations!
SP as far as I am aware the soldier was not tell to move he was given the option of doing so and accepted that option. Given all the problems experienced at some hospitals the staff may have gone for the path of lesser resistance.
Ok,I'll play with this bit.......

//Why would someone choose you specifically, to be asked to ask if you would like to sit somewhere quiet and out of the way, would all the other patients be given the same opportunity? //

I am partially sighted and have a white stick as well as having mobility issues - the rest of the waiting is filled with boisterous pubbers and clubbers and I didn't say they wouldn't afford the same care to anyone else.

/// You re simply 'supposing' that the previous incident involved a muslim/ethnic, etc. etc. and there is absolutely nothing on which to base that assumption except the fact that that is how your mind works. ///

Take of your rose tinted specs and read what it says;

*** In an explanation to his family, hospital workers were said to have claimed ‘they didn’t want to upset people’ because they ‘have lots of different cultures coming in’. ***

The explanation is in the words, 'have lots of different cultures coming in’.

I wouldn't bank on it because he has admitted that common sense is a rare quality here on AB, and I know he is not the type of chap to insult his fellow ABers, so he must be referring to himself.

:)
Thanks THECORBYLOON

I've seen documentaries on how 'fractious' waiting rooms can get, especially at the weekend, but I maintain that in the circumstances described, security personnel should have focused on the removal of anyone who had issues with Sergeant Prendeville, rather than the other way around.

In fact, if this story is indeed accurate (as reported), in Sergeant Prendeville's position, I would have simply said, "I'm fine here...if others are bothered by my uniform, I suggest you deal with [them".

/// SP as far as I am aware the soldier was not tell to move he was given the option of doing so and accepted that option. ///

He was not a soldier, one who serves in the Army, he was an Airman, one who serves in the Air force.

Oh and so you may not get further confused in the future, a sailor is one who serves in the Navy.
///but I maintain that in the circumstances described, security personnel should have focused on the removal of anyone who had issues with Sergeant Prendeville, rather than the other way around.///

There were no Security Personnel involved. it was a member of reception staff who suggested he move. Likewise there were no aggressors it was a precaution, that's all.
As I said earlier in the thread I've stood in many times as a SO at that Hospital and spoke to one of the Guys working there earlier today.
yeh, what on earth are you going on about SP

You'll have to let me know what it is I've written that has befuddled you. I've checked my posts and can't work out what has thrown you.
I want to know if Baldric has broken the rules, not only a common sense post but sneaked in some real experience too.
Okay...I didn't see that Mamyalynne.

Thanks for the 'heads-up'.

That actually constitutes a complete ban from AB (as opposed to a temporary suspension).

Oops, is that not allowed then?
Sp, well what common sense answer have you got for the OP's question? (and there was no other abusive / aggressive person there, if that matters)
