Tambo...there have already been many 10,000's of deaths, amongst them many children. And there will continue to be more into the future. We need to address the problems in Syria head on, and that means talking to the Butcher Assad, even though that sticks in the craw to do so. As long as he is throwing barrel bombs out of plane doors onto his own citizens, the situation isn't going to get better.

By the way, he was massacring his own people long before ISIS came on the scene. But the west just looked on and did nothing.

No it doesn't. The rest aren't fleeing to Lebanon and Jordan - they're coming to Europe.

I'll just repeat: the presence of thousands upon thousands of refugees in Lebanon and Jordan gives the lie to the idea that Syrian refugees have not been fleeing to the first safe country.
Many of those now fleeing to Europe have either had enough of refugee camps or have been encouraged and exploited by traffickers.
Or are the same brave peoplel who stood up to Assad in the first place (as of them pointed out: after Assad, we certainly aren't afraid of Orban!)

Given that I would long since have got fed up of a Lebanese refugee camp, and made enquiries elsewhere, I am not going to pass judgment on those who want to get the hell out

Why not mention UAE. Egypt, Abu Dabai,Kuwait et al. All oil rich vast countries,Islamic and closer to home with loads of desert space.

Mr Saddam was also massacring his own people and look how Iraq has turned out after Mr Bliar and Bush stepped in.We have IS running rampant around the M.E.massacring their own people . It would seem Iraq was better left alone by the West.

If they come here in the masses of numbers that are proposed they will have to get used to more refugee camps. We have only so many hotels here and Mikey's vast housing dream cannot be built overnight with all the utilities required as well.
They are fed up with refugee camps? They and their families are still alive and fed aren't they. Oh accommodation doesn't suit us. Lets swan over to the UK they provide B&B free.
Once again it would seem we have to accept these swarms on their terms.!!

Why would they want to go and be plonked in the middle of a desert ??

Why not?. The Arabs can get Vacation resorts built in the sea. They can provide refugee accommodation in the desert.
The British and Americans built Camp Bastion and Helmund in desert areas. Apart from incoming rounds they looked well appointed and cosy.

maggiebee, I wonder just how long that heart-rending sentimentality would last if a vast influx of immigrants compromised your lifestyle? How much would you be prepared to give up to accommodate them? Would you be happy to see the infrastructure of this country, health services, education, etc., buckle under the burden?

These refugees,it would appear have definite aims as to where THEY wish to go.
They surely realise that when Syria was relatively peace and calm say 20 years ago the likelihood of anyone trying to smuggle themselves into Syria would result in them being shot as spies.
These Syrians now believe they can enter a foreign country illegally (No papers) claim asylum and dictate where they want to go.
The Hungarians put them on a train to a refugee camp. They don't want that because it doesn't fit in with their plans.!!! They want,They want,They want.
They are dictating what they want under THEIR terms.
That does not demonstrate a true asylum seeker fleeing for their lives. If they have not been finger printed and gone through the process of asylum then Hungary have every right to send them to a refugee camp to do so.
Hungary are actually playing by the rules in this case and not just bundling them off to a country where the indigenous population does not want them despite what two faced Merkel suggests to the contrary.

They should reside wherever they can be SAFELY accommodated. They should not be given a choice. There are logistics to consider and it isn't the right of the refugees to side step them.
