Tora - "Swaggering sweaties - they know who they are. "

That must mean I am not one then!

My not wishing to live next to a black family, is not about the colour of a person's skin

now there's a sentence to behold.
It certainly is.

/// But what if Mr Kodogo is a brain surgeon with a wife who is an accountant, and he went to Oxford, and his children are in private school, and he likes to play Beethoven very quietly of an evening, and have champagne receptions on his terrace in the warm
weather? ///

Then if I knew that for certain, then I would have no problem with him living next door to me.

But since you have made your imaginary scenario, then please give me the opportunity to make mine.

I mean they could also be a problem family with unruly kids, who each possess a Ghetto blaster, playing non-stop rap music, with the windows wide open on a sultry warm evening, waiting for other members of their gang to turn up, and be on the streets to the early hours.

So it is always safe to steer in the direction of caution.

/// Yes, and if any of them came on here and advised that they did not want a white British family moving next to them, that would be racist as well. ///

Oh so at last you just could not help yourself, reverting to your true colours again, obliviously you are calling me a racist.

Good bye.

But you are not 'steering in the direction of caution'. You have said that you would not wish to live next to a family of black people because you fear that they will play loud rap music and have noisy barbeques.

It's no use saying that if my second scenario was the case, you would be OK with it - what are you gong to do with Mr Kodogo -ask to examine his degree certificates and his CD collection before he moves in?

There is no arguing round this - you have stated - and argued, that you would not want to live next to a family with black skin.

There is name for people who think like that.
I have not called you a racist, but for the record, you appear to have confirmed to all intents and purposes that that is what you are.

If you have the courage of your convictions, you will stay and fight your corner.

If you wish to flounce off, I cannot stop you - the evidence of my posts, and yours, are here for other AB'ers to make up their own minds.

Some don't do perfectly rational and reasonable way of looking at things on here.
Divebuddy - if you think not wanting to live next door to someone based on the colour of their skin is rational, then that is a point of view.

A racist point of view, but a point of view nonetheless.
Having arrived at this late I may have missed what lead to this - my response above was simply based on experience.

I have lived in my apartment coming up for forty years and the turnover of neighbours has been at times very rapid, some have been marvellous others dreadful.

I am not the quietest neighbour either, I love dance/techno music but do try to restrict the hours and volume.

My point was there is to me no perceptible link obvious through all that time of any correlation between skin colour and how neighbourly or unneighbourly people have been.
"If you have the courage of your convictions, you will stay and fight your corner."
How droll!

No because you have already laid out what type of person Mr Kodogo is, so as I have already said I would have no problem with him.

You are just being ridiculously obtuse, in your continuous quest to label me a racist, and this is personally offensive.

I therefore find you once again not the type of person I wish to debate with, a leopard never changes it's spots, it seems.

You 'Hughes' are slowly destroying this site, what with getting certain ABers suspended and threads closed down, and your continuous twisting of words and meanings, and your pomposity, standing on top of your ivory tower looking down on your fellow ABers.

Label me a racist if you must, and try and gather your ever diminishing gang of cohorts together to do the same, I am now not bothered, I would much rather be classed a racist by the likes of you than be the type of hypocritical person that you are.
AOG - "You 'Hughes' are slowly destroying this site, what with getting certain ABers suspended and threads closed down, and your continuous twisting of words and meanings, and your pomposity, standing on top of your ivory tower looking down on your fellow ABers."

You Git condemn yourself out of your own mouth- the evidence is clear for anyone who wishes to read it.

Be as rude as you like, you diminish yourself further by it.

"Label me a racist if you must, and try and gather your ever diminishing gang of cohorts together to do the same, I am now not bothered, I would much rather be classed a racist by the likes of you than be the type of hypocritical person that you are."

I have not 'labelled you a racist' - you have managed to do that all my yourself.

As I said, if you wish to flounce off, that is your choice - I shall continue to do as I always have, state my view, debate with those who wish, and enjoy doing both.

I will find my debates diminished without your input, but that is a matter of you standing on your pride.

If you are convinced your view of black neighbours is correct, than my view should not bother you, like your view of me as a hypocrite does not bother me.

I could walk into any pub in the world with a predominantly black clientele and state my views about black neighbours - could you?

divebuddy - "Andy. There you go again, putting a twist on what I actually said."

Then by all means state where you think I have done so, and I will be delighted to discuss it with you.

That's the way people learn, and on occasion, change their opinions if a different viewpoint becomes relavent to them.

Not by taking the huff and going home to sulk.

divebuddy - "Andy, If you can't see where you twisted what I said it can only be because you don't want to."

Not true, but if you choose not to discuss it, that is your privelige.

"I love your fine talk about standing your corner. Did you see Vetuste's post. Ring any bells."

No - I can't say that it does.

"There is never any debate with you Andy. You can't debate with someone who won't listen. I and and several others have said this to you many times. I think we are wasting our breath."

The 'you and several others' amounts to three, possibly four AB'ers who have a personal issue with me - I suspect it would be rather more of the hundreds of people I have exchanged posts with over the years if your assertions were true.

But I accept that not everyone can like everyone, not everyone can agree with everyone - if you choose to continue to debate with me. that would be wonderful.

If you choose to take the AOG route and be rude and flounce off, that would be a shame.

Reagrdless, I shall be here, exchanging views with the vast majority of AB'ers who don't seem to have the issues that a small coterie of like-minded people have decided to make their life's work.

You may thank from that observation that I am not bothered.

You would be correct.
