a very high turnout has been reported, and a landslide "yes" is being forecast in the urban areas. indeed some prominent "no" campaigners are ready to concede.

but would that necessarily guarantee an overall result in favour of gay marriage?

and, if the result isn't a "yes", will the government embark on its previously successful "neverendum" tactic until the electorate provides the right answer?

Oh I can't believe the antiquated views on here. Come into the 21st century please
Retrocop....Your views are fine.....they are yours and I don't really give a hoot what you think about gay people loving each other.....
but do something for me. Look at the suicide rate of young gay men and women.....

Then ask yourself if something you have posted on a public forum could in any way contribute to the torment some of these young people have to go through just because they are not like you and your wife....

Then come back and calmly tell me whether or not it bothers you if you have, in any way, damaged another person.

To reiterate.....I am not questioning your views and opinions......just your inconsideration on a forum viewed by non members too.
Gness, sometimes the most vociferous anti-gays are in denial, at least Ireland, for the most part, is no longer living in the dark ages!
That's true, Psyb....and I suppose we should remember that.

The attitude in Ireland last week was fantastic.....I was ashamed of my short moment of doubt.........♣
gness, that argument is designed to silence the opposition, it is used in all sorts of instances, and it is not valid simply because taking it to its obvious conclusion it means that in order to avoid causing upset to anyone else everyone must agree with everything others say - and that simply isn't viable. To be perfectly honest, this thread has descended into nonsense. Everyone is entitled to his opinion – even if that opinion is contrary to the majority.
I'm against same sex marriage.

I'm also against mixed sex marriage.

Am I both a homosexual and heterosexual bigot?

Or just enlightened?
Naomi......have you not read....it's not the opinion....it's the ignorant and insulting way of expressing it....

Where has anyone said that anyone else is not entitled to an opinion which is different? Quite the opposite.

Opinions can be offered without being insulting and crude......others seem to do it.
gness, yes, I have read - and I read Retrocop's removed post. I didn't interpret it as you did, but as he subsequently explained it - but then I wasn't looking for offence because I'm not 'touchy' about the subject.
Naomi, I've seen you use arguments to silence the opposition and I don't think your post has contributed anything here
And as Shoota has popped up.......he and I have very, very different opinions on two subjects.

We've disagreed on here and voiced our opinions without being ignorant and rude.

Do cop on, Divebuddy......
Psybbo, if people opposing my arguments have been silenced, it’s been through rational debate - not by talking about suicide and the torment that their posts might create for the reader. I think that's shameful. You’re welcome to your opinion of my input here.

But that matters, Naomi....well if you have a heart it does.
Naomi, the high rate of suicides of young gay men in Northern Ireland is a sad reflection on our views in this sad province and I make no apologies for addressing this, after all it is News!
To me, it's simple. Ireland has sken and quite strongly so - now it is the duty of their elected politicians to enact the referendum, the debate perhaps being about the demonstration of commitment being presented, perhaps - but then is there any difference between a same-sex relationship announcing their hook-up and Eamonn and Siobhan, No!
my new pc, excuse me, sken = responded....perhaps sken is the Manx translation?
