I'm with TTT here. I don't expect what I am going to say to be popular but I am going to go ahead anyway ! These tattoos just look childish. When I was a boy in the 50's and early 60's, we used to buy packs of bubble gum with transfers in them, in the way home from school. You licked these paper transfers and then stuck them on your arm. But as soon as you got home, Mum would...

TTT...thanks for my Best Answer.....We do agree about most things you know, just not much to do with your avatar !
but mikey, its only opinion that defines tatts as "scruffy"....just like its opinion that describes being overweight as unnattractive.
I have tattoos myself, I don't care whether anyone likes them or not.
Mine are all in places they can easily be hidden by normal clothing.
I had them in these places so that it wouldn't hinder future job prospects.

Anyone who has huge, obvious tattoos should accept that many people are going to be put off by them, especially in customer facing jobs such as retail and food and bar service staff.
But woofy...its the opinion of the Employer that counts, not you or I. Nobody has the right to a job and if the Employer doesn't think that they are suitable, then thats it.

The people that have covered themselves with these visible tattoos have shown a lack of judgement if they thought that it wouldn't make getting a job harder in the future. Most other things can be changed but tattoos are not just for Christmas, they are for life !
Well one thing this thread has done is presented the language with the new term coined by andy; "visual prejudice", where will this lead, and will it soon be an offence? :0)
Is it the police or army that have said neck tattoos are OK as they realise that they are missing out on those that grow up late ?
Talbot...you have made the classic mistake in not using a remotely relevant example to the topic in question !

I disagree. You appear to think you are in a position to judge others by their appearance but where does it start and where does it stop?
You haven't even said anything remotely sensible like "if it is discreet and not on show, fair enough" You just seem to have dismissed anyone with a tattoo as childish.........how ironic!
I was going to have a tattoo using the word Llandudno but lost interest when I realised it would have said Ludo most of the time !
mikey - comedy gold!

Let me hold my sides - they may split!
Talbot you have to get used to the fact that there are ABers who are unable to scout even the most obvious parallel

but dont change !

I find the off-the-wall parallels are the most interesting to read
amidst a relentless flood of "yeah", "wha...." and "meh?"
Oh my god mikey and Scunthorpe was a no no when you thought of what it look like when you bent down !
Talbot...wrong again !...In my post of 14:00 today, I quite clearly said :::

"The people that have covered themselves with these VISIBLE tattoos"

If tattoos are not visible, then I can't see how they can enter into any discussion in a job interview. A dolphin or fairy on the buttock is not going to matter a hill of beans is it ?

Anyway, the sense of what I said is still right. Long hair or overweight can be dealt with...VISIBLE tattoos can't, and that is what TTT's original post last night is all about.

I used capital letters so that my meaning is perfectly clear...I hope this helps !
TTT...lol, and Andy...the old jokes are the best !
By the way, I used that joke once in America and it fell completely flat.

Later I realised why...they don't play Ludo in America ...should have thought of that I suppose.

That is the link....this is your opening gambit.

"These tattoos just look childish."

Now please tell me which tattoo on the link you are referring to.

Yeah George V and his brother ( Albert Victor aka Jack the R ) had tattoos and no one said they werent capable of being King.

and what about Callaghan ? Merchant Navy and so he had to do on beach photo shoot with trousers and long sleeved white shirt...
You should also have realised that your average American would have no clue as to where or what Llandudno was.

Is that a town in London?
-- answer removed --
Oh God that reminds me someone in USA referred to the Hampshire fly-over in West London.....well why not I thought

not very tattooey, sorry

I blame Talbo he put me up to it
Numbers 1 through to 7 Talbot !...Well...you did ask !

My turn to ask a question now !

Have a look at my link at 08:10...here it is again :::

Do you think he looks nice ? Supplementary question, do think he is sane ?

I'm enjoying this !
