anne, I'm sure the Queen would appreciate your donation to Barnado's. She's the patron and Camilla is the president.
It always amazes me that royalists genuinely believe that anti-royalists / abolitionists hate the royal family personally! It's not the individual people themselves that I despise. How could I - I don't know any of them, nor would I suspect does anyone else here. Rather it's the institution and concept of monarchy which I find so loathsome - the fact that a mere accident of birth brings with it such privilege. I can't find any reason, practical, moral or otherwise to justify its continuation.

"But the Queen works so hard", they say. So what! Lots of people work hard! That's a non-argument.

"But they bring in so many tourists!" No they don't, not personally. No tourist other than, perhaps, the reddest of necks visits Britain because they actually think they're going to meet the Queen. They'd still come to Buckingham Palace whether there was a royal family or not, just as they continue to come to Versailles in their droves.

Private Eye's headline "Woman Has Baby" pretty much summed it up when William and Kate had their first.
Lovely news! I wish them well.
Great to hear some good news for a change. I wish the couple every happiness. My only hope is that they are left alone and we don't have the three ring circus we had before George was born.

So are you a communist jeffa? Birth -accident or otherwise - brings privilege to some and poverty to others. A child born into any wealthy family will be privileged whether that wealth has been accumulated through hard work, artistic talent or inherited land. If Monarchy was abolished tomorrow I doubt it would make any difference, as as an Institution it is self-contained and self financing. Stopping paying the Royal Families' wages would certainly not mean they's be queuing up down the local food bank. It would just mean they would stop all their 'royal' work and get on with enjoying their lives.
And that would be just fine! Like I said, I don't want to chop their heads off nor strip them of their wealth. It's the institution of monarchy which I want to abolish.
Didn't we hear this a couple of months ago when they were in the US?

We are so behind the times with our own goings on ;)
Actually, I didn't hear it from you first, jordy, it's streaming on the BBC news website...... and what the heck difference is that going to make to the vote. I'm glad to know, I was getting mighty fed up with the speculation.
Yet another Royal mouth to feed !
I'll save up for some nice nourishing purées.
Gosh Mikey, I had no idea you worked at the Palace!
Congratulations :-)
Sorry Retro...I am not a Royalist in any shape of form, and it irritates me that this "news" item will dominate the headlines for the next few months, when there are so many other much more important things that need discussing. I have raised 2 this afternoon in NEWS.

People have been having babies since for ever, and this includes the Royal Family, although not all of us are lucky enough to have Harley Street on standby, waiting for it to happen...can't we just get over it and get on with something more important ?
Surely the over-blown coverage rests squarely with the newspaper editors, etc?
I love the royal family and I'm not even English.
// Unless the Queen decrees otherwise, under the terms of the letters patent issued by George V in 1917, this baby will not be considered 'royal' nor entitled to the appellation HRH//

oh God the poor little blighter gets a surname then ?

Clayton or Sharon Charlene Windsor ?
Congratulation William & Kate. Wouldnt bother me if they have quads. lol
Jack the hat...here is the "front page" of the BBC News website.....bet you can't guess what bit of news is top of the page ?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk/

The two resignations over child abuse are way down the page.
I don't expect everyone to be happy or indeed be in favour of the Royals overall - also I wish the media would simply announce the news then let them be in regard to private matters.
Mamy ...that is not going to happen in a thousand years ! Pap like this sells newspapers and that is the only thing that counts.
