Go 'on the rob'. Young women might go on the game.

beg, rob and steal, obviously!
exactly, that's what everybody would do.
I would rely on family first.

Claimants will be disallowed or sanctioned only if they fail to do something they are expected to do without good reason. If they take the best steps to look for work, attend all their Jobcentre or Work Programme appointments and apply for all the jobs the Jobcentre have telt them to apply for, their JSA will not be affected. It's not unreasonable to expect claimants to do this to get their JSA.
But what if something goes wrong and they have to pay money out unexpectedly.
I'd try to avoid benefit sanctions for a start. I have been on benfits for a couple of short periods (only CBJSA) ut made sure I complied with the requirements. My understanding is that benefit sanctions are not the main reason for attendance at food banks though

So basically people will not be plunged into desperation if they play this game successfully:

very droll, but I didn't find it 'realistic'.

What a patronising little exercise int he name of IDS

I would do whatever I needed to do to survive, legal or not!
MPs don't have to regularly attend all the House sittings to get their benefits - one rule for the rich and one for the poor - typical Toryism.
It's an academic question - the point of benefits sanctions is that such people won't exist.

Well that's what the government thinks.

if you believe that being an MP is such a perfect number, you're perfectly at liberty to stand for election to the club. and it's not like you have to convince "them" to let you in - you just have to convince your peers. that's democracy.
benefits are very generous, they can buy some food instead of waccy baccy and white lightening.

how long have you been claiming r1

I know of a number of benefit claimants (not well, but well enough to know something of their circumstances). Among other things:

Each of them has a mobile phone (far more up to date than the one I own).
Most of them run a car.
They nearly all manage to spend a bit of time down the pub and/or eating out.
They all have large TVs and most have Sky or cable.
At least two of them have enjoyed a holiday abroad in the last 12 months

I'm not saying that all benefit claimants are living the life of Riley. Similarly I do not believe that they all need the services of food banks. Yes there are occasions when benefits go awry and people are left without cash. But these instances seem to be infrequent.

It may well be that some benefits have been slightly reduced for various reasons. But this does not leave people destitute. As I said in an earlier post when I was a child there were few people poorer than my parents (who both worked). The difference is that they did not have the ability to adjust their spending by cutting down on luxuries (such as mobile phones, cars, eating out, drinking, TV subscriptions and holidays) - we did not have any luxuries. Furthermore, they did not have the opportunity to get food from a food bank because they did not exist. But we got by.

Food banks are used because they are there. If they were not there people would get by. This hysteria about benefit cuts needs to be put into perspective. It is not the case that people are dying in the gutter for want of food. `

This article explains that a number of people living on benefits manage to scrape together enough dosh for a break in Magaluf. Yes, I know it's the Daily Mail but I'm sure there's an element of truth to the story, if for no other reason I know of at least two people living on benefits who managed a foreign holiday.

The benefits claimants I know of most certainly would not have been seen dead in Magaluf. Their destinations were a little less downmarket.

new judge the question is what would you do if they stopped your benefit ahd there was NO JOBS

it is not that hard to answer is it

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ?
bang on as usual judge. No one is starving in this country. The benefits must be the most generous in the world.
"what would you do if there are no jobs and you are hungry ?" - Human survival would kick in, however this is a purely theoretical position. Benefits are not stopped no one is allowed to starve to death.
