I`m quite surprised that this is the verdict (if correct). It`s such a shame that history has repeated itself. http://www.independent.ie/woman/celeb-news/peaches-geldof-died-from-heroin-overdose-30234230.html

seriously - you're turning this into a debate on whether gobshite is offensive or not??

its about the tragic death of a young woman, i find your lack of respect more offensive
ummmm

/// Gobshite is someone who talks nonsense. I don't care what the dictionary says! ///

That is almost like saying "the world is flat" I don't care what the navigators say.
Mcfluff, who's lack of respect?
Grow up, AOG, it's not like that at all.
ummmm

It was you who said "I don't care what the dictionaries say"?

Isn't that why we have the use of dictionaries so as to tell us the correct meaning of words, or shall we all just put our own particular meaning to words so that they fit our own particular agenda.

Incidentally jno there is no need to be rude, if you don't know the meaning of the word, look it up, may I suggest a dictionary?
You're English, I'm Irish, we use the word in a different way.
Why did Peaches take heroin on that day?

Why does anyone take it on any day?

Because it feels nice.
andy ...maybe! maybe!

It was a dose that killed her.

200mgms IV is lethal but addicts can survive 2,000 mgms.

IF she did die of heroin overdose, then she knew the massive dose to take.
I cannot understand why she took it when she was caring for her two young sons. I also read somewhere (probably Mail online) that the police didn't find any drugs and now suspect someone had been there before them - probably a member of the family to clear stuff out of the way. Still sad though.
andy-hughes, I would guess she was identifying with her mother, about whom she'd apparently been thinking a lot. The thought (that's probably too strong a word, more like a feeling) might be that if she could survive the drug it would somehow mean her mother had done so too and could live again.
I have to agree with the generalisation that if a celeb does coke .....it's just what they do, if Vicky Pollard does drugs, she's a smack-rat.

I also have to agree with, 237SJ that it is sad that some people seem to have an inbuilt self-destruct button that they seem to have no control over.
Alcohol is bad for your health ,Smoking is bad for your health ,Heroin is bad for your health, Cocaine is bad for your health
Continued, Playing with mobile phones whilst driving is bad for your health, why oh why do we all like doing things that are dangerous & bad for our health ? Because we are human & imperfect & do not see the dangers of our actions. I weep for this lovely young woman who had everything to live for as I do for all my brothers & sisters who fall at the wayside in life's progress.
RIP Peaches.
If the Coroner is not announcing the verdict until 23 July perhaps the AB pundits should rein their necks in too.
Yes, Eccles, agree 100%
ummmm

/// You're English, I'm Irish, we use the word in a different way. ///

Would that then be from the 'Dublin Irish Dictionary' or the 'Belfast Irish Dictionary'?
in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter AOG... A young woman is dead ! She's not getting much peace on AB
Dictionaries merely reflect the most common usage at the time

that is how they are compiled and updated by the Editors

words are defined by what most people think they mean - that's why the definitions change over time
Eccles

\\\\\If the Coroner is not announcing the verdict until 23 July perhaps the AB pundits should rein their necks in too.\\\

Why? This will be debated/discussed in every pub, club household and gatherings in the UK, so are you suggesting that AB should be different.

Yes, I suppose you are...........but not realistic in my opinion.
sqad - are these doses in the public domain ? or examples ?

I must say I wouldnt expect anyone to survive 2g Heroin
I think I might have Dr Shipman on my side on that one

They are talking about "tolerance breaks"
and tolerance breaks after abstinence

that is you go back to normal if you dont use it
and then can poison yourself if you then take a druggies' dose first off.

I dont think she was a regular user - she wore short sleeved dresses
