Keep BBC 4 it's one of the few channels that has interesting programmes, often good music, documentaries. BBC 3 seems to be endless repeats
Seems like the most sensible business decision to axe BBC3. Mind you, I do hope they can find an alternative home for Family Guy and American Dad :)
I am with emmie in this. BBC 2 seems little above childrens programs and its output is far below BBC 4, which I am watching more and more these days. There are plenty of other channels, like ITV, and all the satellite ones, that has similar output to BBC 3, but hardly anything to compare to BBC 4.
i have watched some cracking music programmes, very diverse choice, from Bruce Springsteen performing in London, with some of the Pete Seeger musicians, to Tom Jones, with one of my favourite people, Seasick Steve,
American and British folk music, and some other stuff i hope they repeat, good channel, most of the other BBC stuff is dire.
I don't think I will notice it has gone.

Will the re-name BBC4, or just leave the schedule looking like a grin with a tooth missing?
leave it be, or call it BBC arts, don't care, as long as they don't get rid
BBC4 is the best channel in the world! It's got something for everyone. I find commercial channels unwatchable due to incessant adverts, & banal programmes aimed at cretins at best.

They both only come on at 7.30pm. The could merge the best of both to make BBC three and a half.
i would get rid of BBC 3 and def keep BBC 4, it's one of the best things to come out of the BBC for yonks.
I'm very pleased indeed that BBC4 has survived.

It may be an age thing, but I simply find BBC3 noisy and annoying.

BBC4 however?

Parks & Recreation
Wallander
Spiral
Borgen
Salamander
The Bridge
The Killing
Fantabulosa
The Road To Coronation Street
Adventures In Space And Time
Hattie
Twenty Twelve
The Story of Musicals
Mad Men
The Slap

Totally agree with carrust.

I love BBC4.

However... I am old and culturally minded, and the channel seems made for people like me.

People who are 50 years younger and like a bit of fun might prefer BBC3. It may be the BBC is tailoring its decision to the mature middle-class, middle-aged market, and risking losing the attention of those who may make up this same market in a couple of decades.
Jno, totally agree, except why shouldn't culturally-minded, vintage (not older) people have their preferences catered for. Some of us find that Peppa Pig in the morning gets a tad repetitive, we need our me-time. Love sp1814's list of BB4 progs, a true polyglot, we should all be fluent in Scandanavian soon.
oh, I'm not complaining, zebo. Just thinking that if I were Lord High Panjandrum at the beeb I'd be fretting about losing a young audience I might need in future years.
I like some things on each channel. On Bbc4 I love Parks and Recreation, Only Connect and the repeats of Top of the Pops. I think Him and Her was on Bbc3, which I also loved.
Personally, I'd axe the channel that pumps out vacuous drivel morning, noon & night. BBC1.
(except for Pointless, of course, which is flipping brilliant)
//(except for Pointless, of course, which is flipping brilliant) //

is it still brilliant when you're having a warm fuzzy feeling of deja-vue and a realization that you've seen tonight's show maybe less than 3 months since?
Three or Four? Neither.

These are the only channels on TV creating new programmes and whether they appeal to all of us or not, they should all be mainstream rather than relegated online. Get rid of BBC1 instead, I cannot remember the last time I used it.
/These are the only channels on TV creating new programmes/

No they are not.

It was only in December that the BBC lauchedthe Three HD channel. To then axe it a few weks later suggests muddled thinking.
