Rather than say anything about her time as PM I prefer to say something about her as a local MP... Every christmas she hosted a party for local old people and even my almost communist mother in law said she was lovely... and would not be bothered by other issues during the time she spent there. I also know people who worked at the houses of parliament who found her...

thank you for taking so much trouble sir.prize -)
Sorry Wolfgang but thought it was a bizarre question.
sometimes a question is just a question......
I thought I made my point but your question means I obviously did not.
A very unique and remarkable woman who served her country with distinction. Never flinched from a fight and had the courage of her convictions, unlike so many of her peers and successors.
Grudgingly respected across the main political parties, her tenure defined by her actions during the Falklands Conflict.
One who admired and respected our Armed Forces, she leaves a legacy that will long be debated. Many a politician would like to be able to say they subsequently caused so many to engage in politics.
She was a Great Briton who restored pride in these oft derided Isles.
May she rest in peace.
not at all, people do know people, you said that you didn't like her, and I wondered if your statement was a more general one or whether you actually knew her....either way I make no comment about you opinion or your entitlement to express it.
jackthehat, if required to put my feelings as eulogistically as possible, it would be something like "I don't merit being in the same buidling as Margaret Thatcher".
Kept thinking of Christopher Wren's monument. It's in a dark spot under the cathedral, in the undercroft. It takes some finding, unlike the enormous monuments upstairs to the sons of rich families. After a recital of Wren's life , the Latin words read as "If you seek his monument, look around you !" Those words would also apply to Margaret Thatcher. What she did, and the consequences, are still all around us. They are her monument.
Gavmacp, you did make your point. Woofgang was just joining the long list of posters who continue to ask the ridiculous question of "did you know them personally?", as if to say your opinion is not valid unless you did.

Not a personal attack on you Woofgang.

What I was trying to say is that if 'given the chance to speak at the funeral' there would be many things I could say. But if I did then it would say more about myself. That it would mean that I did not respect the occasion and her family. A funeral is a family occasion and I would hope that I would behave in a dignified way.
I mentioned earlier on in the thread, that the very fact that we have been invited to contribute a Eulogy for Maggie means that it ought to contain positive rather than negatives thoughts.

I don't believe for a minute that people aren't entitled to harbour negative thoughts about her, but this particular thread [given the Ed's comments] ought to have been for remarks out-lining the good that people feel/believe about her.
madmen, I resent that "as if to say" I wasn't joining any long list and as I have repeatedly said, there was no agenda, hidden message, assumption, NOTHING behind my question....It was just a blooming question for flump's sake.

this is not of course a personal attack on you.....
so gavmac.....you didn't know her then ;-)
Woofgang, calm down dear.

MadMen,
Thank you for your comment. I did not take it as a personal attack but I am well aware that I sometimes think what I have said is obvious. But when the person I have spoken to responds either at the time or subsequent action or when they fill the form I have asked them to complete, it is obvious that my communication was inadequate.
ya wanna see me not calm?
Wolfgang,
I sometimes wonder if I actually know myself!!
I understood you loud and clear Gavmacp :-)

"ya wanna see me not calm?"

Er... is that a trick question?
no, its a flippant remark
