i think it is because the cow is worshipped in their country as a devine animal
They may be Hindu's and the cow is a sacred animal.
the holy cow

But if they were hindu, they'd do pork dishes
Beef is sacred to Hindus but quite a lot of curry houses do beef because they`re not Indian, they`re Bangladeshi (Muslim).
Muslim and Jewish people do not eat pork. Having said that a lot of Hindu people that I know are vegetarian.
Mine doesn't do pork or beef either.............
I have a friend who is a Sikh and she does not eat beef because, as shooty says, she considers it to be from a holy cow. I believe in India cows wander about anywhere they want and are not stopped even if they are in a china shop!!
Beef is best from the Chinese..................ummmm sizzling beef with black bean sauce.
Ummmm is sizzling, Craft? lol

Over 90% of lamb imported from New Zealand is Halal (even though it is not labelled as such) so it is easy to source and relatively cheap to buy.
Halal chickens are also cheap and plentiful.

Halal beef is available but is not cheap. Most of the 'Indian' take aways and restaurants in the UK are Bangladeshi or Pakistani - nearly all are Muslim.

that's what I believed hc4361 - that's why I can understand them not using pork, they price dishes accordingly, with king prawns being the most expensive, there is one by us that also does tandoori duck and salmon, which can't be more expensive that beef, surely?
lol @ tigger.............ummmm has been known to sizzle.
Halal beef is VERY expensive though. Don't forget sea food isn't really Halal or non-Halal and the king prawns they use are generally bought in bulk, frozen, from the cash and carry, so are also cheaper than you'd expect.

Many local curry restaurants do serve tandoori t bone steak, whether it is Halal or not I have no idea. Thinking about it, I don't know what the protocol is for handling non-Halal meats (with the exception of pork which is a no no for many Muslims).
if they are Hindu they will not handle, eat or serve beef its against their religion. No call for it.
Less than 5% of 'Indian' restaurants are Hindu or Sikh owned. Most are Muslim.
