So the police are now going to investigate charges of murder 40 years after the event, following the findings of the 12 year long, £195million inquiry by Lord Saville.

This latest investigation could last another 6 years at a cost close on £8m.

What about the 53 men that the The Parachute Regiment lost, who is to investigate their murder? but then all these terrorist killers have been released and treated with respect by our politicians.

If there were any charges to be made for the killing of those on 'Bloody Sunday' then they should have taken place at the time. not 46 years after at a cost of £203m.

bitter, no, just fed up with others people's arguments, those who get into a bother, ask for help, then don't like what they get. I hope that this investigation goes ahead if the families want it, then fine, but it will prove nothing beyond the fact that innocent people were killed, which we already know.

/// I think some of you are very blinkered with hatred be it Irish, muslims or blacks!! ///

One could be all three.

And what about The British, the Armed Forces, the Jews, and also Homosexuals, why leave them out?
Jake...you can't expect families to put and shut up because of what some politicians decided.
Em //but it will prove nothing beyond the fact that innocent people were killed, which we already know. //

And perhaps justice and peace of mind. When that happens they may be able to let their loved ones rest in peace...and move on.
jake-the-peg, people are still being sentenced and serving time for old crimes. See my post at 14:09
would you say the same about German bombers who flattened half of London, or Bomber command who flattened cities like Dresden. People that were killed in those raids had done nothing wrong, one has to presume that.
Politicians get involved in wars, but it's the folk who have to pick up the tab.
Why are you bringing Germans and Muslims into this. You cannot escape the fact that British soldiers killed unarmed innocent people.

It sounds like you're trying to justify it, Em.
Ummm - that's exactly what I expect

It's hard but it's been the price of peace in Northern Ireland

Protestant paramilitaries have been released

IRA men have been released

The only reason these soldiers weren't released is because they weren't prosecuted early enough.

this is against the spirit of the Good Friday agreement if not the letter.

I'm no friend of the Army but I don't think this is just
so you prosecute a score of old soldiers, many who might well pass away before this case comes to any sort of trial, what then.
The authorities always denied that there was a war. The forces of law and order, including the Paras, were there to preserve the peace. Shooting innocent people is a strange way of doing that.
Umm, one way or another this is wrong, innocents killed agreed, but there is nothing to be gained by taking these soldiers to court, absolutely nothing.
The relatives of the dead might disagree. They're as entitled to justice as any other victim of violence

/// Have you ever gone shopping and had your handbag searched by a soldier before allowing you to walk down a street? ///

No but I had a relative who was in the British Army during the 20s and both him and his friend were walking down the street together in Northern Ireland, and his friend popped into a shop to buy something and never came out, he was murdered, just for being a British soldier.

So like all terrorist they don't instil trust, one never knows who one is up against.
ok, have it your way, but suggest that opens a bigger can of worms. All the victims of bombings, killings, be it RUC, army, civilians would have a case, and be should be heard.
Totally agree with Sandy.
i am sure you do.
Em, the difference is it was the British Army. The have a set of rules. Killing innocent civilians is not among those rules.

Oh I was under the impression that no one had been convicted yet.

So much for the chance of them getting a fair trial.
i will be amazed if this comes to a trial.
You can look for the footage, AOG. I'm sure it's available.
