Would it had been sexiest as well as homophobic if they had also refused to give a rose to a male partner of a gay diner?

How would the waiter know who to give the rose to? I suppose they could have looked under the table and seen who was wearing the mannish brogues.
Brown Tweed.

They match my brogues and monocle.......
and the pipe, jack ...
Of course......

This is my 'going out for a romantic Valentine's Day meal' pipe,

Brown tweed dungarees? All right for the country estate, I suppose. But in town a nice Prince of Wales check might be more appropriate.
I like to cock a snook at convention, Sandy.
It's certainly not true that there is a masculine one and a feminine one. Not always, I mean.

In fact, I think it looks a bit odd when one of the women is markedly "the man". It's easy to understand a girl being attracted to a girl, but more confusing when a girl is attracted to someone who is masculine, but who is a girl.

If I was going to go out with a girl, I'd want her to be a total girl girl.

If I want to go out with someone masculine, I'll go out with a guy.

Was that well argued?

Students will be cutting and pasting my well reasoned argument for the sociology theses, LOL.

But you know what I'm getting at.

I can see where you're coming from, but that's honestly not how it pans out in real life.

Thinking of the couples I know, there are very few who fall into the butch/camp category. In fact, it's more likely that 'like attracts like' but not always.

Actually - forget all of that. Gay couples are as messy and undefinable as straight couples. There are very few generalisations that are 100% true...

...except that lesbians LOVE cats.
Mmmmm, this is a thorny one.

I know exactly what you're talking about. A chap I knew a few years ago was dating a man who looked like he could play rugby for Wales. Very intimidating.

However, he was INCREDIBLY camp. So much so that a friend said, "Every time he opens his mouth, a purse falls out".

That made me laugh for a considerable amount of time.

But back to your point - yeah, if you're attracted to someone of the same sex, you'd think that you would be attracted to either the manliest man, or the girliest girl.

There's nowt as queer as folk.

(You see what I did there?)
SP1814, i used to send my DH a rose at work on valentines day.
i notice no-one has admitted to making the remark...
id be interested to know whether the person was perhaps old and prejudice and and trying to make a point, or young and stupid and was following the 'rules' to the letter

or the opposite
"..except that lesbians LOVE cats."
Is that the same as pussy?

I still don't get it, St Valentine is the patron saint of lovers, and on Valentines day it is usual to give the person you love a small gift, usually a rose or a box of chocolates.

That being so,and this restaurant were giving roses out to one lover, and the Lesbian couple are complaining that they missing them out.

Then would a couple of gay guys be in order to say if they give them out to lesbians then they are being sexist if they missed them out?
The one that asked for a rose for her partner should have been given one FULL STOP.

How bloody ignorant.

And if a man asked for a rose for his partner he should have one aswell. Fine if its one per couple....feckin stupid waiter or waitress how ignorant x
Is the custom actually to give a rose to the one you love?

... or to "the girl" you love.

Do many guys go a bundle on being given roses?

If a girl loves a girl, she should give her a rose.

Would two guys actually want a rose? After all, they don't want their lover to be a female, so why would they want their lover to follow a female custom?
as sp1814 pointed out waaay back, the tradition is to offer roses to females. If men asked for one, it wouldn't hurt the restaurant to comply; but I suspect it wouldn't happen.

If they'd said to the lesbian couple in question "Sorry, only one rose per couple", they would have been behaving logically, if unromantically. But to say "lesbians aren't proper couples" is just foolish, insulting, and wrong. Some staff member needs serious reprogramming.
Any wait(e)r/ess who had said that to me would have been picking greenflies out of her 'important little places' for several weeks afterwards.......
greenflies??
Every couple who wanted a rose should hve gotten one regardless of they were male & female or two guys or two females x
