I have never, ever, ever posted a link to a Daily Fail article before - but this one is actually very well written and just has me shaking my head and wondering what sort of world we are living in ...

http://www.dailymail....s-failed-parents.html

I guess the worst of it is that I'm not even all that surprised.

At the risk of upsetting some of the people who I usually count as 'on my side', it does tend to make me suggest that we make the buggers pass an exam before breeding ... like I had to before I could adopt a dog !!

I was a school Governor for a while. Once I said that I did'nt know why there was all this fuss about school dinners, because my grandson had them and it did'nt really matter because he had a good breakfast and a good evening meal. Some of the tales the teachers told me after that really shocked me, not only about the childrens meals but awful stories of some of their home lives.
We just don't appreciate the lives we have had where these things are the exception not the rule.
the difference there is if you keep breeding with your dog we dont keep giving you more money
are social workers supposed to deal with matters like this? (Though I know they get demonised whenever anything anywhere goes wrong.) Or do they only step in when something's been brought to the attention of the council or police?
yes there are many who are too stupid to breed.
The sad thing is, by the sound of it, they have passed exams...!!

Sometimes I think people have children because 'that's just what you do'

I cannot imagine how little communication they must have.

It's not hard teaching your kids basics, like counting. You count every time you go up the stairs. You teach them colours by pointing out things.

Maybe people have just become too busy....they want peace and quiet at the end of their working day. Life is not as easy as it used to be
I'm sure there is a reason this can be blamed on immigration, but I can't quite see it yet. I'm sure the usual suspects will explain though.

I see bad parenting all the time. Sadly the young parents are bad but dim.
Are not bad, just dim.
We get primary schools through the Lifeboat House and sometimes there are children who have such a limited concentration span hat they cannot get much from the experience. They seem to need a one to one supervision, which must be difficult in these times of cutbacks. I believe its called a lack of primary socialisation.
“Maybe people have just become too busy...”

I don’t think that’s the explanation, ummmm. I encounter a few of these “troubled “ families who produce such children in connection with some of the work I do. They are usually second or third generation career unemployed (or more usually unemployable) who have all day every day to raise their brood. They are either unable and/or unwilling to do so.

Sorry to disappoint, Gromit, but I believe it is also not attributable to immigration either. Many immigrants, especially Asians, raise their children properly and do all they can to encourage them to succeed.
I'm not sure how much faith I'm prepared to put in to this article really. It's one persons point of view. I don't doubt that there are many children like this, there's enough of them on my clinic lists for me to be able to see that it seems to be rising. However I'm not convinced that the experience of this teacher or indeed my own experiences dealing with social referrals are quite enough to have me shaking my head yet.

It's a bit like when I worked in Andrology I saw loads of penile cancer cases so from that perspective penile cancer seems damn popular (for want of a better word, I'm tired) but actually it's relatively rare. I'm just not sure how much perspective is in this article... if that makes any sense at all!
Sadly I know 10 year olds who can't use a knife and fork (knives are dangerous); 5 year olds who can't wipe their own bottoms (they won't clean themselves properly) ; and 10 year olds who can't tell the time (it's the schools job to teach them).

I also know 23 year olds who can't boil an egg; operate a washing machine or vacuum cleaner; expect mum to mother them.

I despair.
NJ - In that link, one of the parents mentioned is a stock broker. Unemployment is not mentioned.
parenthood is about the only " job " where no qualifications are required.
and just as well too, or which of us would be here?
As is usual on here, no matter what is posted and no matter how tragic the case, there are some who will try and encourage others to bring immigration and race into what in this instance, is a very sad reflection on present day society.

Even the op had to excuse himself for daring to upset people who are normally 'on his side', by posting a link from as he called it 'The Daily Fail.

Get used to it Dave, if you continue to read it, you will find that what they report on, will make you continuously shake your head and wonder what sort of world we are living in.

That is why some hate it so much, the DM generally investigates and publish on things that we would normally hear nothing about, that is why it is disliked by those who wish to cover up certain matters.
\\\They wear nappies, drink cola and don't know how to open a book.\\\

Question Author
Yes indeed RH - middle class, white, relatively affluent area ...
We're raising a generation who don't communicate face to face, but are adept at using new technology. They can't write or spell, but can probably text at 200 wpm.!

They will sit at home with game consoles, mobile 'phones and the telly all running at once, shop online, and only leave the house to draw the dole.

The following generation will be born with sockets ready installed in their heads.
