Why do these people bother doing the lottery if they dont want it to change their lives? Isnt that what it's all about? It is also extremely selfish to continue to work in a job when you have come into so much money, enough to retire on, when there are so many out there looking for work. What's wrong with doing volountary work if you are fortunate enough to be in that position? Not take a job that someone else may be desperate for.

For a lot of people, their job is a very important aspect of themselves.

It provies a sound and comforting daily routine, a set of colleagues and friends, and a productive role in life. Some people are reluctant to give that up, even if they have the finnancial wherwithall so to do.

So although I can see the sense in what you say, i think for some people, the loss of that stability and framework would not be advantagious to them, and they would prefer that their good fortune does not make a major change in the fabric of the life they have built up.

If you hate your job, and are happy to give it up, fine, but it is not compulsary simply because finances permit.
Depends how much they won just a million won't last long as in a major city a nice flat or a small terraced house can be more than a million especially in parts of london, once you've done that, bought a car and had a good holiday there wouldn't be much left.from a couple of million.. if they were relatively young they may well need to work
I know where andy is coming from but if i had won the lottery i would have jacked my last job in in a second as i hated it.... I've done voluntary work maybe 14/16 hours a week since being out of work and i love it... i think i would carry on doing that if i did have a big win....
oh the cruel irony!

Frankly for carrying on working on tills at the co -op after that win, she should be shot :P
flipping heck boo thas a bit violent lass lol
Yes ,well....lol
It depends how much I won, but I'd certainly want to carry on working for a while, while I sorted myself out - I love my job.
1.3 million Approx £300,000 for a 3 bed house in colchester... Young couple a million won't last that long
I'd move abroad, and I can't do my job THAT remotely....
Alot of people are quite happy with their lives and don't want to change them. What they don't have though is security.

In the event of redundancy, illness, or some other major change their outlook is bleak. Also, they may be looking forward to an old age of poverty even if nothing bad happens.

So the reason they do the lottery is because they're looking for security for them and their loved ones, not because they're looking for a life changing event.
Hear hear, ludwig.
Sounds a lot of money but then again she is only 19 and trying to start up her own business. In this financial climate it won't go a long way. Good luck to her and her business.
I say B00 is Jeremy Clarkson and I claim my £5. :-)
if i won £1.4m i would give up my job, and then work on the tills at the co-op. good on her i say. sensible lass.

I understand where you're coming from, but there's something else to consider...a lot of people have good mates with whom they work. Remember when you were a kid and you were off sick from school? The first couple of days were brilliant...but after a time, you begin to miss your friends.

I imagine the same would be true if you gave up work. You might devote yourself to charity work, who knows how fulfilling that would actually be?
if any lottery winners really want to work they can have my job... for adequate remuneration of course, I'm not a charity!
With 1.3mill, you can buy a whole new set of friends sp. Bugger your old set, buy a new lot more fitting to your new station in life, tis what I'd do!
Ankou

Actually, that would be interesting - have a large bank account and a job with zero responsibility.

Hmmm...you could then change your name to Paris Hilton!
I've easily spent more than £1.3 million since I was 19...She's only being sensible.
