I had the misfortune to visit one of my clients in Princes Street Edinburgh earlier today. She has a very smart office overlooking the gardens with superb views to the Castle and the Old City. However, this was totally countered by a lone bagpiper standing a good 600 yards away, huffing and puffing into his bloated tartan cushion and even through closed double glazing that grating, shrieking, whistle got through and set my nerves on edge for the entire interview. How is it permissible in a civilised society that we have to endure a terrible cacophony (similar to the strangling of a flock of pregnant sheep) in the business district of a city? Is this an infringement of my human rights to peace and quiet? Is it acceptable that my earspace is invaded in this way? Does anyone actually enjoy this instrument? Or are you, with me, of the belief that these discordant and deafening Caledonian inventions will be (unlike harps) the instruments of hell? Ban the burkha is so 2016...let's ban the bagpipes.

You can include church bells to the list. They sound like scaffolding poles being dropped from a great height.

Once had the pleasure of sitting at a table at a dinner dance when the pipers came in and one stood next to my right ear-drum. Cor, I never heard a thing for the following week but it was blooming wonderful.
What have knickers to do with a Music thread?

Anyhoo - there is a charity for decent used bras.

Seven pipe bands marching and playing together at a Highland Games is a fantastic sight and sound.
Three bagpipes in a church hall - unnervingly deafening!
It was your choice to visit the City, Scotland is known for Bagpipes I've never heard of anyone else complain, If you have another Client in Scotland, " Phone them" Simple
4, yep.
The dinner dance I was at was in a church hall.
Cor, am surprised the rafters stayed on!!
As a Scot I absolutely love the pipes being played - outdoors only. Hate them inside a building. Have any of you ever listened to the Red Hot Chilli Pipers - a real treat, such entertainers. Pipe Band championships was also a treat.
The trouble with bagpipes is that you can't tell the difference between a learner practicing and an experienced piper playing a tune you've never heard before
