For people who didn't see the concert, Prince Charles addressed the Queen as "Mummy"
I was surprised as he usually refers to her as mama...............
he always does ann86..i think its more ''tongue in cheek'' than serious...i dont think he says ''will you pass me the caviar please mummy''....
Yet all through a tribute to her by him - shown a few days ago - he called her ma-ma.

I think the 'Mummy' was a joke - sort of

Yes I thought so too Craft - I think it was a bit tongue in cheek as an extra bit of affection for her and maybe to make us all smile.
having said that my mother died when I was 60 and I always called her mum....

I call my Mum who is 2 years older than the Queen - "Mum", I stopped calling her Mummy when I was about 11 ............

Yes probably ha ha ....

But I did get choked to see the wreath of flowers on Princess Diana's coffin from her boys ...... with just the one word "Mummy" on the card......
Have always disliked the appellation mum (silent). Surely all families are free to choose what they call each other.
When my daughter sends me greetings cards she always addresses them to Mummy, and when we speak on the phone, at the end she always says "Love you mummy"......................she's 42.
Is it an upper class thing? I used to wince when my aunt referred to my grandmother as 'Mummy' and would say things like "We're going over to Mummy's at Christmas'. She herself was more middle than upper, but had pretensions. I have since noticed genuinely grand ladies doing the same. What's wrong with calling the woman 'Mother' (or 'the old bat')?
lol Fred...............the daughter calls me Mother when she's telling me off for something.
I'm 46....they are still Mum and Dad, I use the same names with my inlaws, nowt wrong with that

Yes I refer to my Mum as Mother when I'm exasperated with her .................

It's a standing Royal Joke, he's done it before (I can't remember when but it was a similarly public event) - "Your Majesty, Mummy" - ER2 was laughing.
