having always thought that Dr Who was...well, rubbish really, the news of its return was underwhelming at best. but once i'd heard that Russell T Davies was writing it and Christopher Eccleston was the lead, i guessed it'd be good - as Sat night dramas about time-travelling alien-fighters go. and it was. but i won't be turning down invites to the pub to watch it. it's not the Sopranos, is it?

I mind on watching a tense and dramatic episode of   Doctor Fa wi ma cousin Brenda years ago. Ma dad sneezed REALLY loud and Brenda and I almost hit the roof.

I seen to-night's but somehow I doubt it'll have the same impact. One point but, how did The Doctor's current appearance show on photos and drawings from the past? (Yes, I know I should get out more but a straitjacket does attract attention.....)

I always hated Dr. Who.  But hey there was nothing else on so I poured a G&T and sat down to watch.  Loved it!!!!  And as ofr the Dr., I have never wanted to traped in a Tradis more!!!  WOW!!!
tis a good point there loony, one that i missed...his looking in the mirror early on and commenting on his appearance clearly implied that he regenerates differently for each adventure / period that he ends up in, yet he looked like his current appearance in all the historical photos. well spotted.
remember the tardis can travel in time, there were a few times he dissapeared and reappeared in the tardis in tonights episode.  Who is to say he did not go off to all those time periods (Titanic, Kennedy, etc)  and have other adventures before returning to tonights time frame a few seconds after he left, aha! solved.  Loved the chemistry between the Doctor and Rose too, looking forward to more of the same
fantastic to see dr. who back and it was great. christopher eccleston is a great actor he was excellent in the second coming. billie piper was surprisingly good also. the special effects were very good and the upto date feel of the whole thing together with lots of outside filming made for a great programme. i imagine die hard fans will be very happy. bring on the daleks. from ritchard in scotland.
Considering i wasn't a fan of the series when i was younger.I thought last nights episode was not bad.I guess only time will tell.
Bearworld I know the TARDIS travels in time but from Doctor Fa's reaction when he looked in the mirror, that was the first time he'd seen that appearance.

I wondered the same thing, Loon.

I wasn't that impressed: it reminded me of an American comedy-draama like Scrubs, which I don't find dramatic or funny enough.

That said, I shall be watching the rest of the series.

It was a lot better than i thought it was going to be...they have actually spent some money on special effects for a change!!...I will be watching again for sure but Tom Baker is still king!

i was really pleased with it !

it was all i had hoped it would be ie good story, good effects, good performances

cant wait for the next installment

there is nothing saying that The Doctor might have travelled to them locations in the future...

anyways, does anyone know how many numbers the show pulled (ratings)

-- answer removed --
doomey, according to Teletext, Doctor Fa got an average of 9.9 million or 43.2% of the audience and Ant & Dec was seen by an average of 7.2 million or 31.4% of the audience.
I watched it, took it for what it was, did not over anylise it and I loved it perfect escapism . The papers said it had 10.6 million viewers that's not bad although some will have only looked out of curiosity. but I'm hooked
