I've just noticed Sir Elton's name being taken (affectionately) in vain on another thread.

It reminded me that (despite not being quite my 'usual cup of tea') he played two of the most memorable sets I've ever seen - at Birmingham Town Hall in about 1973/4 and then at Wembley Stadium in 1976 - I'd gone to see The Eagles ... honest.

The man is a consummate showman and has written more good songs than you could shake the proverbial stick at.

Post your favourites here - I'll start with Crocodile Rock

I confess that I like him and his music. I sometimes like Rod Stewart. I used to like "Two little boys" but............
Let's not forget a certain Mr Taupin's contribution to his success.

Another goody imo

Can't stand Elton (do you know who I am) John. I wouldn't cross the road to see him. Fact is I'd cross the road to avoid him.
I've only ever liked one of his songs then he went and spoiled it with that crappy princess Di version.

I had a piece of Elton John's 50th birthday cake. I like old Elton - I like the way he speaks his
mind. He was going into a restaurant one night and the press accosted him. He said "Why don't you just F... Off" Unfortunately, he then tripped up whilst going up some steps which somewhat ruined the effect of his putdown
I might take the mick sometimes, but he is a national treasure even when he behaves like an old queen [ tantrums & tiaras], and I love him to death, my fav song got to be Benny & the Jets.
Also if ever I hear Candle in the Wind I think of him at Princess Diane's funeral, how he kept his composure I shall never know. Well done all round
Reg.
