If you are not going to the vet, do you have a local Pets at Home? They sell Frontline for fleas and will no doubt also be able to recommend a cream for the red patches.
Depends what the red patches are caused by loulou111 - probably are caused by fleas and you definitely need to address that so why not ring your vet and see what he/she recommends? A lot of the cheaper flea products you can buy over the counter are useless anyway.
You will have to treat the house too.
The only thing is, the red patches may not be caused by fleas so if you possibly can I'd contact your vet. Good luck and let us know how things work out.
Please don't get FrontLine loulou, it doesn't work in many many cases as the fleas have become immune to it. If your dog has fleas and red patches possibly caused by scratching you need to take it to a vet and quickly. Your home will probably be infested with fleas and flea eggs as well. Please read the attached thread and see the advice given to another poster today.

Frontline has always worked for my dogs and family dogs, so yes, I would still recommend it.
Hi jb. Problem is whilst it may be working in your area there are many areas in which it isn't working. As we don't know the situation in every area or indeed which area a poster lives I won't recommend it. Plus the fact you can now get it without prescription and I recommend flea treatment from a vet only. Watch your pets careful jb as I found out the hard way when my little cat was covered in fleas for the first time in her life due to FL no longer working on her after many years use.
You can only get Frontline spot on without prescription - if you get the spray you have to have a prescription and I have used it over the years without any problems. No over the counter stuff is as strong as prescription stuff - so cut your losses and spend the money for the decent stuff in the first place rather than constant buying of cheap stuff from supermarkets and pet shops.
Frontline is NOT cheap from Pets at Home and I repeat it always worked for my pets and my family's pets. I recommend it.

Good for you and lucky dog to have an owner who did the right thing by him/her.
Wish all owners were as good as you.
