Why does my cat get so many fleas?

She brings them home regularly and we spend a fortune getting rid of them. About £100 this time, two months ago it was £86 and the time befor that £75.

We flea bomb the whole house, spray till you can't breath and give her flea tablets and drops on the back of her neck. She has a flea collar and well but she just keeps getting them.

I HATE the little burgers as they always get ME. It used to be just me they got but since my daughter started growing up they have started attacking her as well. They either just don't like emails or they like the feramones we give of lol

Is it a case of constantly getting them or will we have to get rid of the cat?

feel sorry for you - here is the stuff I used. Please spray every single thing -

suite, carpet, under cushions of your suite, stair carpet, bedrooms - flooring - if cat sleeps on bed - strip bed - mattress, under mattress, (JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING IN YOUR HOUSE - and cat's bedding washed meticulously.

This will work I used this and never looked back but did spray for at least one week.

Vets charge was astronimical for it but get this from Amazon.

Dont they have a 3 month anti flea and tick tablet for cats like they do for dogs. We get milpro from the vet

what products are you using and where does your cat go?

I have used that in the past Jenny but to no availe.

I have used a block of one manufacturer of Bob Martin and a combination of Bob Martin and Johnsons and the Acclaim just to see if they work in combination. Each time she gets them I also changer her flea collar and give her a spot on on the back of her neck. This time I gave her a tablet a couple of days after the spot on as well.

And I am still being bitten. Either they are not succumbing to the effects of the products ro they are having a feast in the hope of surviving.

I usually use a fogger one day then spray the next and the day after powder (which funnily enough isn't a powder but tiny little balls) and the little burgers still manage to survive.

last infestation we had i used both and the little *** haven't been back since - although murph is now totally an indoor cat

Which brand of the spot-on are you using cassa? Forget Bob Martin. I use Advocate from the vet and never have any of the problems you are experiencing. My opinion for what it's worth is if it doesn't come on prescription then don't buy it. If you buy a good brand such as Advocate, and use it at the correct intervals, then you won't have to spend more money blitzing your home. It is cheaper in the long run as you won't have to buy anything else and won't need a flea collar for a start.

Totally agree with LB, you are wasting your money using anything not on prescription. Bob Martin particularly, I'm surprised they still sell it. From my experience in the past it is utterly uselss.

Prudie thank you. Some vets are still prescribing Front Line despite the most perfunctory search on t'internet telling how useless it now is. It must be pure misery for the poor cats having to put up with constant itching and it is so easily solved using the right products. I don't know how some manufacturers are still in business, they must be at odds with the Trades Description Act.

We use Advocate for our cat .. it's prescription only, but we have yet to have a flea problem since the cat started using it (at lest 6/7 years ago).

It may work with humans, perhaps a squirt behind your ears might do the trick..

Use prescription stuff. I use stronghold or advantage. I have 4 cats and I swear by that stuff.

Just to add to the others Bob Martins /Johnston's are utterly useless !!
Fleas evolve constantly to become resistant to 'flea killing' products. You have to use the most recent 'up to date' products to stand any chance of killing them.

It seems I shall have to take her to the vets for the strong stuff. That just leaves getting rid of them in the house left.

I know this sounds obvious but make sure you vacuum thoroughly first and follow the instructions to the letter. Hopefully. neither your cat nor your house will ever be host to a flea ever again;-))

Ladybirder - that's what I advised Acclaim but Cassa said - it didn't work.

The shop-bought spot-on is useless as fleas are now immune to the ingredients in it. Your vet will give you a prescription for Broadline. This goes on the back of the neck, treats fleas and worms, and cost around £8 - £10 per treatment, depending on the vet.
I use it every three months on my cats and never have a flea problem. Almost as good as Broadline is a product called Advocate, another spot-on treatment, also only available on vet's prescription. It is slightly cheaper than Broadline.

Worked for me jj but I made sure I treated every nook and cranny and it gets recommended a lot on here so I don't think we are alone:-))

I've used both R.I.P. and Indorex...both are excellent,but I think Indorex us just that little big better. For both cats and dogs I use Advantage...also available in Amazon/ eBay.
