My husband works in several different homes every day and occasionally comes home with flea bites from cats and dogs that he has been around.
The fleas do bite humans! They also lay loads of eggs in the areas they are in.You'll need to thoroughly hoover the carpet and chair to get rid of the eggs, and scatter some flea powder around. They could be in the carpet of the room the chair was originally in too though! A good hoovering session is called for generally maybe!!
You can get a really powerful spray for furniture and carpets from a vet - Staykil or Acclaim are the best ones. You need to follow the directions to the letter though - they're very difficult to eliminate!

dog fleas cannot live on anything other than a dogs body but, cat fleas can live on and in anything and so it may be cat fleas you have off the chair not dog.using a flea bomb in or strong flea killer will help but you need to repeat it weekly for several weeks to remove all traces of them. and hoover thoroughly. make sure you reach into every corner and get rid of all dust etc on skirting boards as they can live in there too. hope this is helpfull

when we moved here the previous owner had left us a nice present my ankles were a mass of bites we called in the council man he told me that they live around the edges not in the middle of the carpet and just under the edges of the furniture so he did not spray the whole of the rooms only the edges of everthing and that got rid of them now we use nuvan stay kill on the carpets that lasts about 12 weeks and frontline on the dogs and cats to keep us flea free (2 dogs and 8 cats)

You have sound advice for dealing with fleas and larvae etc. in the house but a good thing to keep these little things away from your pets is garlic! - a little bit of garlic paste in their food a couple of times a week will build up a resistance - if you don;t want your pet to have smelly breath then get the garlic pearl drops from a health shop - it DOES work, honest
