has he been treated appallingly by the authorities, and the media?

....or does the pursuit of child protection at all costs fully justify such tactics and treatment?

No, it doesn't justify it. That's why people shouldn't be publicly named until they are charged (if they are...)
He was treated really badly regardless of whether he was innocent or guilty. The police took the BBC with them while they raided his house.
The BBC owes him a huge HUGE apology..the polis already have offered their..inadequate as it was....he is being interviewed and is showing on loose women tomorrow for an hour..or today in bits throughout this morning..
He was treated appallingly, he deserves compensation.
aside...hope you are bit brighter nom...xx
Hopefully he will take the BBC and South Yorkshire Police to the cleaners financially.
Getting there thanks, MM x
a sizeable charitable donation at the very least
Yes Murraymints that would be good as I don't think Cliff would sue for his own financial benefit.
indeed !
the public view ( and unlike anyone else here I have written to the DPP on this very subject ) is that the system is meant to work like this.

( that is the publicity ISN'T a mistake )

Having been on the end of a number of unfounded malicious allegations ( alleger was in debt to me ) I did say " I am getting refutation fatigue on this " as I was refuting allegations whereas in law one doesnt have to ....

and the thing is that one is meant to terribly grateful to the authorities that you have spent money showing the whole shebang is a load of crap - money you cant get back....

Neville Pearson - the fella accused of indecent assault on the game of thrones actress on waterloo station concourse ( really ? ) must have spent tens of thousands on his successful defence ....

yeah he [St Cliff} could get his revenge by having a fren' hack into the civil service public address system and programme in all his songs in perpetuity !
he's another victim of Saville really, over excited plods and journos leaping in with both feet. I hope he sues their plasters off. The problem is since Saville so many are now guilty until proven innocent and Sir Cliff is the latest one of those. Plod and co get fooled by unscrupulous gold digging "victims". They need to take a long hard look at themselves. Chin up Sir Cliff, for what it's worth I never believed any of it.
The late Clement Freud is now being targeted by investigative press- I saw someone on the news last night revealing how in the sixties she was student and he came back to her flat and made her an Ommelet then made advances which she rejected
As a side issue, and maybe to provide a little levity to a serious discussion -

why, as a multi-millionaire with access to the world's top designer, does Sir Cliff consistently wear such horrible clothes?
The BBC did nothing wrong. Their journalists learned the police were going to raid Richard's home, so they covered the story. They are a news organisation, they are not going to ignore a scoop.

A complaint about Cliff was made to the Police, so they are obliged to investigate it. Now they have done so, they can find no evidence, and he has been told there will not be a prosecution. Again, the police have not done anything wrong, they have done their duty.
Didn't the police tip the BBC off though so the camera crews were waiting at the house as the police arrived? Maybe I have misremembered it
PP, what has happened to the CPS is quite disturbing. I have first hand experience of their tactics myself. If like me you are committing the worst possible crime of being white middle class bloke you are guilty until proven innocent in the eyes of the feminist mafia.
AH,"why, as a multi-millionaire with access to the world's top designer, does Sir Cliff consistently wear such horrible clothes?

Because thats what he wants to wear!

If I became a multi millionaire, I would most likely wear the same clothes that I do now, I would however buy myself a new hat!
Hey - get the calendars out, this is worth remembering - Gloria Hunniford talked for over a minute without either turning the conversation round to herself, or mentioning her daughter!
