^^ sorry, posted too soon - Sir Steve carried it in, a group of young people lit it.

Rod Jayne and Freddy ......well they could be called that for all we know.
A good twist imo. |

Where it was was intended to be somewhat of a mystery that was only revealed at the moment the cauldron was lit. You may recall a number of copper "petals" being carried in by children along with the procession of the national teams. We werent told what these were for but it became apparent when the torch bearers came to light the cauldron...
Those petals were attached to copper pipes or "stalks", that were laid out in a circular fan shape. The torch bearers lit some of these petals, then the others lit up by themselves. Then these stalks were raised up to effectively form a compound torch made up of the petals brought in by the different nations. A very symbolic and unique cauldron. There's a youtube video of it here: |

compound "cauldron", I should have said

The lighting of the cauldron was brilliant, but the rest of the opening was pathetic, how any of countries watching knew what it was all about i don't know,i only knew because the commentaters told me.The music was one long noise.

A group a budding young athletes lit the cauldron, promoting the next generation of sportspersons - which I thought was lovely - no big name to light the flame.
At least now you know and perhaps others too. What music wouldn't have been noise?
I meant it was a terrible noise.
