Have you noticed how in soaps a new character will enter with one type of personality and before you know it they are the complete opposite.

Billy Mitchell and Minty both joined Eastenders as nasty pieces of work but ended up being big softies who wouldn't stamp on a spider.

Stephanie Cunningham in Hollyoaks was a cheap slapper who everyone hated and she ended up as some sort of angel like being.

I think you spend too much time (and thought) watching soaps!
Question Author
Oi! They are the only two soaps I watch!

The Only Way Is Essex and Made In Chelsea don't count as soaps. ;)
Yes. Darren Stark in neighbours. Bolton in Heartbreak High and Toadfish in Neighbours.
Will Clive Horobin in the Archers change his spots?
It's only fiction.
It's only fiction, but to enjoy it you need the suspension of belief. If the script writers can't provide this adequately, then it ruins the show. Totally put me off Eldorado I can tell you.
Question Author
oh, I'm not familiar with any of the other characters mentioned.

Is it Canary? I thought they were documenteries. I did think it was odd that when Ronnie stole Kats baby it didn't receive or when Silus murdered all those poor girls the stories didn't get more media attention.
Suspension of disbelief I mean.
Soaps, by definition, stand absolutely no analysis what ever - they simply collapse.

Why in EastEnders, if everyone hates everyone so much - does no-one move out of The Square?

Why does everyone in all soaps have a turn at working in the shop / pub / factory / garage?

Why does no-one have any kind of social live that doesn't revove around the pub - going to the cinema, watching TV - having a normal conversation?

As I say, the soap opera is a unique dramatical construction which works as long as it is viewed entirely superficially - like the walls in Crossroads - there is no strength or subtance anywhere.
I think they bring in new characters and wait for feed back before they decide on their final personality.

Look at when Fatz and his mates came in. Fatz went down well but the others didn't so they got written out and he got turned into a 'awwww' boy.
Aww I like Fatz. He brings some levity to Eastenders .
Question Author
I don't remember Fatboy when he came into it. I remember the others being a bit annoying though.

I love Fatboy. I want him to be my best friend.
Same....but I want him to be my daughters best friend. I'm a bit old :-)
I liked Eddie Moon - surely he couldn't have had bad feedback? His sons on the other hand...
Question Author
Nah, if Dot can handle him you'll be alright!
Question Author
oohh, I didn't like Eddie. I do love Michael though! I think I'm the only one who has those feelings about both people.
True true...very very true...

Chelle...he had to go on tour.
Ah will he be back then - hope so!

Michael - ewww he's horrid, plays it very well, that toothy 'smile' (shiver)
Michael gives me shivers down my spine! haha He's great
Question Author
It's that nasty little tooty grin that I love the most!
