Court records are subject to 30 year closure, although many are closed for 100 years.
You can go to your nearest large library and trawl through the old newspapers though. Or try the local newspaper offices for back copies.

Ethel's answer isn't totally correct.
The case papers for a court case are, indeed, subject to the '30-year rule'. However, every court has to maintain a Court Register, which is a public document and contains basic information about all court appearances. See the later posts here for further information, including a relevant link: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Law/Criminal/Qu estion384706.html Chris |

It all depends on why you want the information in the firstplace. If,for example you wanted to know what had happened to someone who had been charged with a motoring offence and this offence had involved damage to your car,you can write to the court and ask for a Memorandum of Conviction.Be warned though,it will cost you 25!
