Chicken Farm

Can anyone help? I have been plagued by flies from the neighbours chicken farm at the back of my house. Enviromental health have been out, and admitted that the flies are 'chicken flies' and have come from the farm, but say that the farmer is taking all the necessary requirements to prevent flies. There are 5 or 6 sheds each capable of housing 1000 chickens in each and the nearest is about 250ft from my back door. Is the farmer legally allowed to house chickens that close to houses? The problem is obviously a health issue,is there any action i can take along those grounds? Enviromental health have so far been next to useless!!

wonder who was their first, the farmer, or the houses. It might be that the houses were built long after, and perhaps he might have a prior claim, saying that people would have known there was a farm there, so why settle in the surrounding areas.
Have you lobbied your MP for one, or spoken with the farmer. I do know from past experience of going past any number of chicken farms, they are odorous to a point of nausea and couldn't wait to get away from the stench.

if environmental health has been out theres nothing you can do now about the farm maybe put something at the windows and doors like cafes do or used to do might not look good but im sure it would make a difference

not sure that works, unless you have got up close and personal as they say you can have no idea of the smell. Utterly vile.

it's not that the flies are from the chicken sheds, they are coming from the mounds of chicken Sugar the farmer is storing ready to sell on in bulk.

Some guile and ingenuity is called for here. My solution would be to invest in a cheap barbecue/rotisserie, capture the little sods, roast them and then flog them on the highway at £1 per bird cheaper than Morrisons.

in our village we have had a chicken farm here for decades and decades, my son works there and is always moving the hens about, the free range hens in the sheds can go outside if the want but as they move in flocks they tend to go all at once, then the farm hands have to clear the yards and it gets piled up and is sold.
