The bearing is probably about to fail. If it does (and the fan ceases to function) the boiler will cut out. This is because the fan extracts the burt gases and without it the boiler is dangerous.

Some models you can replace just the bearing, others a new fan is required.

fans on the way out mate, you will need a new one soon.

you can try a squirt of wd40 but i'll wager it will conk completely before long.
