Random question about balloons

What happens to balloons filled with helium after you let them go? Where do they end up? They must come down but why do we never see balloons falling out of the sky? I'm bored so someone please entertain me with a response.

They land in trees and burst on the branches?

They only come down at night when its cool and you are asleep, the warm air keeps them up in the daytime?

They get sucked into jet engines?

If you go to the moon you will see millions floating in space?

Crikey, you are bored!!!

all the little birds steal them at night, thats why the dawn chorus is so high pitched, without all the helium we would have a baritone dawn chorus.

I should think they'd burst eventaully, because of the pressure and altitude.

Some of them come down and harm wildlife. In fact there are people trying to get mass baloon releases banned.

They get tangled up with birds, dolphins etc and can even kill them.

one day we set free a helium filled birthday balloon and watched it drift off into the clouds from our garden here in warwickshire in the midlands, uk.

we'd attached a note with our contact details on it and a week or so later we got a reply to say it had been found by some school children and their teacher in germany!

nice one.
