If I get a new �10 note from the bank today and cash it, what are the chances of me owning that same note again in the notes lifetime?

When I was younger I used to sign all my notes, I never saw any of them again.

Possibly higher than you think.

If you go back to the shop where you spent it and buy something else with a �20 note then the chances are fairly high that you might get it in change - even if it's been through several other customers' hands first.

The chances lessen with time I would think

Not exactly what you want, but the DVLC website has a page that will tell you whether your old cars are still being taxed
