Applecrumble, I doubt that Glow Worm manufacture alternative gas fires to replace your old, ugly one.Contact them 01773 824639, or [email protected] providing any information about your present model. ( there is a good chance that it may be a Glow worm Co-ordinate, check the right hand side of the casing ).

If there is no alternative, and you really need to change the fire, you would have to upgrade the present system to comply to today's standards. This may appear to be a great outlay, but take into consideration the fact that your present boiler is nowhere near as efficient as a condensing boiler, also, it would not be money lost ,as the value of your property would rise, and if you were to sell in future, the points on your energy efficiency rated " home sellers pack" which is to be introduced in the very near future, would rise.

Once the system is changed, and the old back boiler / fire removed you would be able to have practically whatever heat scource / focal point you wished.

Sorry if I sound like a salesman for heating upgrades, but if the boiler is old, you will need to consider your options soon anyway.

Hpe this helps.

Thanks very much, pilotlight! I thought that might be the case but it was worth a try. I'll have to consider my options now but think you might be right about thinking long term, although the heating system works fine at the moment and suits me just fine, but i dont know if i can live with the fire much longer, although to be fair it does give off a great heat! Thanks again
