This was in busy shopping mall
Would the machine have taken it back in?
Weird, is that how it ended - just that one exchange?

No wonder you were shocked.
Perhaps she pressed the wrong buttons.
Question Author
That's probably what's happened

Busy yapping on the phone and has the brass neck to accuse me of taking money
You only have a short amount of time to take the money before the machine sucks it back in.
How did you supposedly take her money, Bazile. According to her ?.
machines do take money back in if it isn't removed within a time limit.

That is machine takes money back in
I once tried to take out money and none came out. I thought nothing of it and assumed that it would not be debited from my account. Around 3 years later I got a letter from my bank apologising and saying that the money had been paid back into my account along with 3 years' interest.
Baz....Its easy to get distracted at these machines. It happened to me last week. I put my card in, requested £240. Then took the card out again.

A friend, who was standing behind me, spoke to me. I turned to speak to her, but when I turned around again, the money had been taken back into the machine.

Its a safety feature, just in case you walk away without taking the money.....its lessens the chance that somebody else will whip it away.

If this happens....don't panic !

Get in touch with your card issuer and explain what happened. I did that and the money was refunded to my bank account by 16:00 the same day.

According to Tesco Bank, it happens all the time !

Perhaps that is what happened to the young lady ?
All she would have to do is put her card back in and check her account to see if anything had been withdrawn.
contact the bank or org using the cash machines
and demand the CCTV that shows you there
it is your right under the Data Protection Act
( make a data subject access request )

and dont be shocked - remember she thinks she's lost her money

all cash machines are viddied

and dont worry - we're behind you!

So long as you make date time and place clear
they can charge ten quid I think
but they CAN'T make you fill out a pink form of 25 pages with the words - "no formy no filmy"

post further in law if you are going down this route and the data controller starts arrissing around

Mamy - she asked me a few times

Tony - no idea

Who said it was a young Lady?
Tony - no idea

LOL, soooo she thinks that you took her money but doesn't know how.
There is a lesson too be learned here. I try not to use street-based ATMs if I can help it. There is a wonderful LINK machine inside my local Co-op, which I much prefer to use.

I also make sure that I concentrate as much as possible, although that didn't seem to work last week ! It happened about a year ago as well, but that time it was only £10.

I know that

Peter

The episode is finished
I walked away from machine

Lady to my left came up to me and enquired if I was alright
I believe she was just as shocked as I was , at this woman's suggestion

///It happened about a year ago as well///

Er, what happened?
I go like a bag lady when I am at a cash machine

mumbling to myself and furtively looking hither and thither

I was pick pocketed soon after visiting a machine and philosophically put it down to experience.
