Rather silly me filled one of those ice ball things too full and as it froze naturally it expanded and overflowed . Now I have a few lumps of ice stuck to the shelf in the freezer. I don't want to de freeze the freezer for this, but does anyone have any ideas how I can remove them ?

throw some salt on it
Can you chip them away? Carefully with a knife perhaps?

Hair dryer?
no, don't do that, the heat of your hands and the ice, it could slip and you'll cut yourself, maybe a wooden spoon if you must, personally, I'd stick with the salt, I've done it on occasion, just think, it works on pathways in winter

I would be afraid to chip it away and I think MrSam would think I was crazy to use a hair dryer , although I might try when he goes fishing. Should I smother it in salt ?
don't advise a hairdryer you could very easily melt the plastic lining of your freezer
You can buy a de-freezer spray for fridges and freezers.
i'd just use a tablespoon over the clump of where you have the lump of ice, I just see there is a thread going about salt at the moment. I'm delighted to see you won't use a knife at it, bad idea (imo)
Dip a cloth in some hot water and hold it onto the lump of ice. Continue until you can pull off the lump of ice, using the cloth.

Thanks guys, I will try the salt. I will let you know, not now though I have had an exhausting day and am knackered.

Incidently, how long should I leave the salt on for ?
just leave it, it will just dissolve and when your next cleaning your freezer and have long forgotten about this, you might just go have a deja vu moment.
In the event that the salt lowers the melting point sufficiently for the ice to melt in the cold freezer, aren't you going to get a pool at the bottom of the freezer, which may flow out next time you open the door ?

Maybe you need a bowl underneath the block.

Did it ! A mixture of leaving salt on the blob for 30 minutes and then a hot cloth.
I would use a hammer and chisel,
do you really need to remove these???
