My OH has an excessive amount of CD's - which are all over the house, in various cupboards etc.
We used to have storage racks but they were a pain as the dogs would knock them over - does anyone have any really good ideas on ways to store them...other than the bin!
Thanks :)

Get him to "rip" the music from the CD onto computer, this is VERY easy to do.

Then he can listen to them on the computer or stream them from the computer to other devices.

There really is no reason nowadays to have actual CDs any more so once he has ripped them he can put them in a box and put them in the loft or wherever.

I have about 200 albums on my PC and while I still have the actual CDs I rarely if even need to play them or access them.

Thanks for you suggestion - he has done this with his favourite ones but still likes to have the CD's to play in the car etc! I'm trying to have a clear out here and he's driving me up the wall as he wont let me chuck anything out! Think I'll have a look for a couple of curver boxes!
Buy an audio hard drive device to download them to....I don't like cluttering pc with music files..takes up too much space....
VHG, suppose the computer crashes, wouldn't all the music be lost? Wouldn't it be a good idea to save music on an external drive like a passport drive or such? Just asking...
Plastic storage boxes..stackable...
Society....I keep music and photo files on an external device....as I am likely to change computer occasionally....
If you have CDs and are not interested in converting them to data files and slinging the originals, then you are stuck with at least some of the bulk. In which case I'd suggest a bigger house :-)

You can, of course, take the disks out and get storage "folders" which would allow you to sling the jewel cases. But I suspect that would be an unpopular suggestion.

I can only think that they sit of shelves easily enough, Dedicate a wall of shelves to them so they are in one place, preferably in a room the dogs don't enter, such as your dedicated music room ;-)
I've got one of these and thinking about buying another

I like to de-clutter where I can now, but I do remember how as a teenager I loved looking through my vinyl LP covers, absorbing every word and picture, and we used to proudly carry a couple of LPs round to a friend's house
Case holds 240 CDs? That would be very heavy.
Depends how many is an excessive amount really, I've got one of these: Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation

I admit that I could do with another one now as well though.

Well of course you back them up to an external hard drive as well.

I have 4 external hard drives and back up everything (including all the music) to each of those hard drives.
I have cut down on storage for both cd & dvd discs by putting them all into plastic sleeves which take up much less room.

Thanks everyone!
Just to ad my two pennyworth.
All my cds are now put away.
I have my collection on the PC,2 external drives, this laptop and most of the collection on iPod. It is much easier to access and play them now.
Modern car stereos can play from other sources. My 7 year old Skoda has a 6 cd autochanger that plays mp3s so hundreds if not thousands in car.
Even my Triumph spitfire unit plays mp3s and has a USB socket plus an sd card slot.
Finally even my wife's next to basic Dacia Sandero has an aux jack, mp3 and usb socket!

Even if your car does not have these as standard a radio link fron your mp3 player is cheaply obtained from Maplinsor eBay.

Hope that helps in some small way.
Rip them all, put them on an iPod and buy an iPod Trip (FM transmitter) to use in the car.

Sorted!

Interesting question and answers......It shows we are all reaching another technological milestone. I am surprised no one mentioned memory stick flash drives......Prices for these seem to be dropping.eg., 128GB £44.40 fromAmazon
Update to alt. storage- again at Amazon.....500GB flash drive (no mechanical parts) for £51 odd!
