A friend (who has been a veg grower for years) has had a crop of potatoes that are semi-transparent & too hard to eat after cooking whether boiled or slow roasted.
Any ideas as to what the reason might be? he doesn't remember the variety name, they weren't his usual choice. Thanks.

I forgot to tell you . Last night I switvced the telly on and Foyles was was just starting. so I thought I'd give it a whirl. As it turned out it was the very first one when he met Honeysuckle Weeks and the man who became his oppo. I never did see the first one so this year I have seen the first and the last. I really liked that programme. Just another useless bit of info from me He He!!
* I switched
iTunes is just a shop like Amazon, you give it 79p and download a song to your computer and/or iPhone. Is that what Spotify is too? I don't see myself sending playlists to anyone else or wanting theirs, I just want to be able to download and keep old Belgian stuff (or whatever).
I feel like an intruder into Spotify convo ~ only joking :~)
Afternoon all, been busy buying a henry hoover, and sorting delivery, then bought a camera for daughter for xmas, a dvd rewriter for my lappy, chocolate teacakes, wagon wheels. Such a lot. 24 hour general strike today in Spain, luckily daughter was in the last plane allowed to land at 00.50! Raining in Spain and raining here! SO nice and cosy, having kippers for tea yay!!

Kit we all grew up together except for the younger bro (the long haired blonde one on the end) as he came along 12 yrs after me! but he sees his siblings often!

It's gone a funny colour here...I think ceiling cat's pulled lucozade paper across Derby skies.
Going to be a lovely day tomorrow Robi!! Lovely sky!
Question Author
I hope so Jude, staring at the miserable rain all day was depressing.
Have any of you got a greenhouse? What have you got as a base? Slabs?
I love this dark rainy weather, suits me very well.
we've got lucozade sky here too
just a red house here. The usual floor - bare earth and rushes changed twice yearly.
Good evening all
Any chips left ?

Drizzly old day here .All went well at the hospital. Three hours we spent while they investigated Mr S's medical history from the year dot ,did an ECG ,drained him of blood etc and gave him precise instructions for the day prior to the op etc .No food just vitamin drinks .
He was very chuffed to find that the doctor who did his assessment was German and by the time they'd finished gossiping it was no wonder we were there for three hours :)
Nothing much else to report really .

My bro fetched me round some veg and I'm off for a mothers meeting with my sis in law and the other Biddys tomorrow afternoon .I'm looking forward to some female company and the chance to drink my brothers whisky :)

My bro has two greenhouses Robinia .It's a mixture of slabs ,gravel ,shelving and some earth patches .These are quite big greenhouses though .12ft wide .

Hope you are all fine and dandy .Look after any ailments ,take care and sleep well
T.Pip for now
Nite Nite xx
Evening possums. I think my 90th birthday must be coming up soon, I'm so tired. Happy to hear the appointment was such an encouraging one, Shaney. (Gossip, did they gossip about Germany ha ha...?)

Of course I have a greenhouse Robi, compact, urban living is no excuse for not having one http://usb.brando.com...ail.php?prod_id=00350 (nah, I don't)

My turn: Have any of you got a Le Creuset "French Oven"? I bought a cast iron pot with no non-stick coating cos those non-stick really aren't healthy, but what happens instead is it turns my food really gray... I know it's iron and some say it's beneficial and some say it isn't, to be honest I couldn't eat gray food either which way...! I've boiled water in it for the longest time and broken it in with canola oil at the correct temperature to create a new oil coating, all according to every instruction that's ever been written including the company's own... but nothing helps and I just don't want it anymore. A friend has a Le Creuset and she's very happy with it. I want the greeeeen one, here (just a random blog, not my friend) http://whodidwhattowh...08/03/le-creuset.html ...so, anyone got one?

Wow Neti, can't believe you all (almost all) grew up together! Did you have bunk beds ten storeys high?!
Kit .we were given a Le Creuset pan as a wedding present .I could never get on with these pans .They're to darn heavy for one thing and I really don't know why people swear by them :)
I ended up giving it to someone .
But ...I'm still using the Fissler pans we were also given as a wedding present .These are the bees knees of pans .

Have you ever though about buying a slow cooker ?

I must go to bed but I got sidetracked at Amazon ....Law & Order series 5 and 6 on their way .
Slow cookers aren't all that well suited for vegetarians Shaney, they're not good with vegetables and beans http://en.wikipedia.o..._cooker#Disadvantages Those Fisslers have really impressed me - I mean they've even got an asparagus steamer!!

oh, that's good news, shaney, they're going to operate in German. Should be all very Vorsprung durch Technik then.

Doesn't sound like Spotify is something I need - mostly for listening to music rather than downloading and keeping. I'll have a browse around.

I tried googling myself today, for genealogical reasons - first time I've done this for many years, and I was surprised how many more results came up than previously. Lots are people of my family name mentioned in historical documents - for instance one was left a plantation in Georgia with slave girl. A couple are things I'd written in hotel guest books, for heaven's sake - who would have expected I'd see them online years later?

But there are also newspaper archives going on line - and to my amazement one of them contained a court report from before the war: my father had been embezzling from his company to buy a motorbike! I knew there were gaps in his CV, possibly legal related, and now I know. I'm not at all fussed over what he did 70 years ago (he got let off with probation and never did anything bad again). But it's a bit alarming to think of all the dark family secrets from decades ago suddenly being made avaialble to anyone with a computer.
