I dug out a couple of large ferns from the garden of an elderly lady recently, she didn't want them either.
Fortunately I love ferns, so I was happy to dig them out, then transplant them in my own garden (strangely they are called lady ferns) I can say that they are fairly difficult to dig out, I dug down with a spade 6" from the plant and eventually levered out the root ball, each weighed 50-60lb's and took about 20 a peace.
All I can suggest is ask someone to help you, maybe someone might want them ?
get some systemic weed killer like round up and paint it carefully on the leaves if you can do that without touching your other plants, that will get rid of it
^ should be 20 minutes a-piece ^
like folly..systemic weedkiller...

Pretty isn't it. No longer around. Think I will get another for the pond area this year.
They are hard to kill - I got rid of a tree growing out of a wall by using neat glyphosphate several times.
