Ok so last week had water dripping through the kitchen door frame. Since the boiler had been leaking I was told to turn the water supply to the boiler off. Its been off since monday and the dripping has started again quite bad. Anyone got any ideas??

Call a plumber
Question Author
If I could afford one I would!! I have a friend coming to look at it but he cnt come till end of next week. Dripping stopped but has started again like 5 days later!
I do so hate the clever dick answers you get on here from people who have nothing positive to give.

That said, the first thing I would do is to check the connections above the kitchen door. Is there a bath/washbasin/toilet/radiator in the room above? If not, have the floorboard up to see if there is a leaky pipe underneath. Its probably something simple like a nut that needs tightening.
Is it drippoing constantly, or is it intermittent ??
If it's intermittent, it could be a leaking waste pipe somewhere. The leak might not necessarily be directly above the door - water could be dripping from elsewhere and running along and then dripping down the door.

Its coming from one point of the ceiling above the kitchen door. There's nothing above it coz its an extention. Am now thinking there's water pooled on the roof?
Is this a door to the outside world or an interior door?
Is the main building two-storey? i.e. is there anywhere higher than the kitchen ceiling where there are taps, tanks, toilets or whatever?
What route do the water pipes take from the main building to the extension? Are there pipes in the ceiling? Where is the boiler?
Did the builders have to move any drains?

Its the door from the living room to the kitchen. The rest of the house is two floors. The boiler is in a bedroom at the back and the windows to that room are above the kitchen extention if that makes sense? But the water to the boiler has been turned off since monday! There's nothing else there! I've lived here 4 and a half years and the extention was built a couple of years before that. Never had a problem with leaks or anything before now!!
If you have had rain recently, visually inspect the flashing joint between the extension and the main house. Check for water pouring out of overflow pipes.
Can you hear water running when it shouldn't be running?
You don't mention any water tanks, so it is an "on demand" small boiler or one with a big tank for hot water and a header tank in the loft?

Its been really hot the last week so no rain at all! Theres no water tank where the boiler is at all so I'm guessing on demand. No emmersion heater if that helps! There was water outside I could hear but as the washing machine was on at the time I cnt say if it was conected!
confused, sorry to hijack your post but how I would love to be able to eat a piece of toast loaded with beef dripping, salt and pepper.
If you have a header tank in the roof, first check that it is not overflowing. Check the lower rear waste joint of all upstairs toilets use a torch). Look under the bath. Feel the ceiling gently to see where it is cold (water can travel a long way). If you can't see the leak with your eyes I'm afraid that it is time to lift floorboards upstairs and find out where the water is coming from.
This leak from the boiler. Could you see it and also see that it stopped when you turned off the water?
Does the extension have a concrete floor or floorboards. Can you see where the hot and cold water pipes enter the extension? Do pipes run down the walls from above to the sink and washing machine or come up from the floor? Look under the sink to see whether the pipes come from the floor or the ceiling. Maybe you have the original plans for the extension handy.

The bathroom is downstairs in the extention aswell. There are no damp spots anywhere else in the house at all apart from that one part of the kitchen. The rest of the extention is fine!
If you have radiators upstairs, feel for wetness under both ends of the bottom of every radiator.
You need to check everywhere upstairs and in the loft for leaks and if there is nothing obvious, start lifting the floorboards. Checking the loft is so important because water could easily run down between the interior wall and the exterior wall from any height until it hits a doorframe.
If the dripping abates while the washing machine is running, that is a big clue (look at the main cold water tank in the roof).
If you have Household Insurance, check whether you are covered for this type of problem. A good insurer will pay for the plumber if you have a fault which normal house maintenance could not reasonably find and repair.
Good luck, and don't leave it for a week.
