It's really funny reading you lot argueing over all these invasions! You should have all been my history teachers it would have been much more amusing
>It was actually James 2nd who was on the throne

I would not call that being pedantic.

Thiat is correcting a factual error.

Yes you are right, typo on my part.
With regards to the 1066 invasion, wasn't Normandy part of or controlled by Britain, therefore technically, were we invaded by the French.

The Vikings also invaded and settled in Britain, probably so did the Angles, Saxons and Jutes.
Lol VHG, I just didn't want to come across as being rude.
What I would like to know is, what did the Romans ever do for us?

the last invasion of britain was by the french in 1797.
the original Britons were from Belgium, long before Christ. The Romans invaded before and after Christ as others have said. Angles, SDaxons and Jutes invaded in the first millennium after the Roman authorities had pulled out; Vikings followed a couple of centuuries later. William the Conqueror's Normans arrived in 1066.

There haven't been any such invasions since; there have been minor incursions, transfers of power (William III was James II's son-in-law and was basically invited in; but he and his troops weren't a real invasion), and failed invasions such as the Battle of Britain (which was a softening up for a full invasion that never happened).
oh, and just to answer your other point: no independence day because no independence - we haven't been colonised, and all the successful invaders, except the Roman administrators, have stayed and settled and integrated.
