hired a car today, and went round the island sight-seeing
this included taking a glass bottom boat to the blue caves and shipwreck beach ... and a stop at the beach (i forget the name) that is directly below the aircraft flight path approaching the airport
as we drove through the main town, there was a sign flashing 43 degrees - needless to say, the swim in the ionian sea was just the tonic to cool us down
i have now come down to reception, and we are waiting for the god-daughter to beautify herself before we go in to evening meal ... ah, she is done so, see you all later

We visited all the places you've mentioned including the Blue Caves by speedboat 15 euros each 11 years ago, bet it costs a lot more now! -it was wonderful! I have some great pics of the Shipwreck Bay, and Makris Gialos beach. We used to eat at the "Vine Leaf" restaurant in Alikes and also at the Pie Shack on the banks of the river, owned by a retired butcher from Salford, his meat pies were like Desperate Dan's Cow pies, Humungous!! Both these places are no longer there now I'm told.
While we were last there for 2 weeks in 2002 (doesn't seem that long ago!) we booked a 2 night stay in Athens, which was great, we saw the Acropolis, saw the changing of the guards with pompoms on their shoes doing their "silly walks" and on the long drive home saw the Corinth Canal luckily with a ship travelling through.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday Excel and come back safely ................. x

All major islands in the sea belong to Greece. They are collectively referred to as the Ionian Islands, the major ones being Corfu, Zakynthos, Kephalonia, Ithaca, and Lefkada"; therefore, gingejbee, "swim(ing) in the Ionian Sea rather narrows it down!" doesn't really pinpoint excelsior-1's location does it?
