I'd like to trace my paternal grandfather/great grandparents etc. I believe they may have come from the Donegal/Sligo/Leinster area. I know NOTHING about any of them as my Dad always refused to talk about his father and we just NEW never to ask .It was always a very touchy subject. Everyone is now dead and there's nobody I can now ask. Can anyone enlighten me with a site to try to trace them? I've tried all the usual sites advertised on telly but have got nowhere with Irish records.

Good morning Janbee, most Irish records of families is held with the Church/ Parish registrar of where the person was Baptised and all other sacraments - only lately there is an Irish Geneology Site been put together, fledgling as it is, you might get something from it. Your post is ever so vague as Donegal is in Ulster, Sligo is one of the counties of Connaught and Leinster has 12 counties all to the east bar Donegal/Sligo, North-North east

Either way, here's the link to the site (you may have come across it already) but I hope it helps a little

Thanks for that ean. Yes, my post was vague, I admit, but that's because, as I say, I know NOTHING about that side of the family and any little snippets I managed to pick up were also VERY vague to say the least.
Your advice is helpful and I really appreciate it. Thanks Ean . You are star my dear. I'll give that site a go and see what happens. Thanks again xx
I hope you find the answers you're looking for,you've a lot of ground to cover there. Best of luck Éan

Think I'll pass it all on to genealogists and let them do the digging for me. Thanks again ean. Your info is a great help. xx
That would be the best thing, you'd end up pulling your hair out ;-}

Hi Janbee, I had a very similar problem, I have been researching the UK side through Ancestry and now they have the Irish records, so far I have been able to trace the usual births, marriages and deaths and also christenings. As with the UK the census records give employment too.

Wired, thanks for your info. Good to know I'm not alone in my search. xx
